I just got some more kinetic sand on sale at Michaels for $6/lb. I think I'd do that.

Most little boys love matchbox cars! We gave Sadie's friend a glow in the dark bath that was right around $5. We went to the Dollar Tree and got a little bucket and filled it with bath bubbles, packs of glow sticks and light up balls/toys. He loved it!

Target dollar bin had these cool car/truck/tractor books with wheels on them, my two year old is obsessed with them. We also found some cool wooden vehicles at Target (fire truck, ambulance, etc) for a reasonable price.

@mediagirl: I would get ABC fridge magnets, like these! http://www.amazon.com/SODIAL-Colorful-Magnetic-Letters-Education/dp/B008SJF6FO/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1417539302&sr=8-9&keywords=magnet+abc
DS is 22 months and obsessed with letters right now, esp our ABC magnets and ABC foam bath toys. He also loves cars, trains, and anything that moves or builds (blocks, legos, etc).

I found in our target these really cute small tool sets that look real down to the black and decker logo! The mixed set with different things like a plastic hammer and nails or a small battery operated drill were only $5. I got a few for my 3 year old God son and he loved them.

play-do or colors and coloring book (I would skip markers, we just had our 2 year old color the couch to make it "look prettier")
