wow - never heard of either! what region of the country are you in? i'm in texas and i have an albertsons, tom thumb, krogers, whole foods, central market (a texas store i believe) walmart market and spourts. The closest one to my house is a tom thumb.

HEB, Kroger, Walmart, and there were some Albertson's, but they all closed.

Foodland, Safeway, and Target. The walmarts here don't have produce sections but they have most groceries. We do most of our grocery shopping at the commissary.

I live outside of Seattle and we have Albertsons, Safeway, Fred Meyers, QFC, Walmart, Target, Whole Foods. We have quite a few Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Korean Asian Markets. I think there's a Ralph's in the city.
I miss Giant and Wegman's from the east coast.

Olson's. Lol, that's it in our little town. But I think it's part of the SuperValu franchise or something. If you don't mind driving 90 miles, we have Wal-Mart, Dan's Supermarket (more SuperValu), and Cashwise. I WISH for a Whole Foods or something equally fabulous.

Hyvee, walmart and target. And fareway but I don't shop there.

haha, i have never been to most of the ones listed so far! we have: trader joe's, big y, shaws, wegman's, stop & shop, aldi, price chopper, market basket, and i guess we have target/walmart/sam's club/bj's- but i don't think of those as grocery stores.

WalMart, WalMart Neighborhood Market, Super Target, Kroger, Whole Foods, Piggly Wiggly, and a large indoor farmers market that runs all year.

Our Target just got food this year (don't shop there for food) and I think WalMart has food (I don't know, I don't shop there at all as a rule).
Hannaford, Shaws, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and a whole bunch of smaller, locally owned markets (regular grocery and speciality). Oh, and a bunch of fresh fish markets too.

@bluestriped bee: I love Wegman's! We don't have one near us but it is my favorite place to shop at when we visit my grandparents. I keep emailing them to open one up near me!
I have Stop and Shop, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, King Kullen, Waldbaum's, Pathmark, and Shoprite. Our Target also has a grocery section. Oh and Uncle Guiseppe's! It's an Italian grocery store - fabulous!!!

I shop at Market Basket, Shaws, and Stop & Shop. Nearby-ish we have a Trader Joes, Hannaford, and Wal-Mart. Then there is a Whole Foods a ways away, but I never go there.
@mrs. bird: Where is the Aldi you go to? I know we don't live super close so I am wondering if it's the same one I know of?

@Cherrybee: I remember Sainsburys when I visited the UK over 10 years ago.
It's amazing that I haven't heard of most of the stores mentioned. It shows that the US is huge, and each area has its own stores.
I live in CA, and near my house, we have Ralph's, Target, Trader Joe's, Wal-mart. We also have Japanese (Mitsuwa) and Chinese (99 Ranch) markets nearby, too.
Other grocery stores in southern CA are Albertson's, Von's/Pavilions, and Fresh & Easy, but there are none near where I live. Does anyone remember Alpha-Beta or Hughes Market as a supermarket long, long time ago?
