Is it similar to a Reese's peanut butter cup?
I saw this last night at a local ice cream shop.

I'm from Indiana and was always told it's a worthless nut.
But yes, it's like a peanut butter cup.

Yes. It is a mix of peanut butter, butter, powdered sugar and sometimes vanilla rolled into a ball and dipped in chocolate.

@Mrs. Cat in the Cradle: Sounds like I need to try some! Thanks!

@Mrs. Polish: LOL!! That's awesome.
But they are yummy. I just won't admit that out loud

@autumnlove: Usually you see them around Christmas in these parts. Delicious!

Haha I lived in OH for a few years and always thought it was a nut..

@chopsuey: lol it is a nut but there is a buckeye candy that is delicious!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@ladybee: omg I've never tried it. will have to hunt it down once I can eat sweets again!

@chopsuey: they. Are. Associating.
My old CW makes them at Xmas time & for weddings and I could eat the whole tray!

My mom makes them at Christmas, but she also adds rice krispies, so they have a little bit of a crunch. She didn't make them last year (trying to cut down the sweets ) and my sisters and I were very sad.

@autumnlove: That kind of looks like a Handel's.
I always found buckeyes way too confectioner sugar-y.

@autumnlove: Yay! I miss Handels. We had one in walking distance when we lived in PA.

@autumnlove: the candy is made to look like the nut of the state tree which is the buckeye. It is also of course the mascot for Ohio state. The light brown and dark brown supposedly looks like a deer eye. That is probably more than you wanted to know but I grew up on Ohio! The candy is delicious!

@Mrs. Polish: @Bookish: @MrsH: the fact that there is underlying football smack talk.going on in this thread is cracking me up. Sounds about right-it is August! You guys are awesome

@MamaCate: I wondered where all the Ohio peeps were in this convo!

@LovelyPlum: I take my potential bowl game opponents very seriously.

@Mrs. Polish: Oh no you didn't! What the heck is a Hoosier, anyway?
But yes ... PB and chocolate candy. Always a little too rich for me, honestly. Sacrilege!
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@MamaCate: I think my friend from Ohio had packaged buckeyes as her wedding favor? I ate mine at the reception... I think I liked them!
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
My parents went to OSU so we make buckeyes for football games. So yummy!
blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts
@scg00387: they're easy to make! There are tons of recipes online.
blogger / nectarine / 2010 posts
@Mrs. Yoyo: oh I so did.
To be honest, we don't even know what a Hoosier is. We were joking around one night that it's a hillbilly term that is to be used like: "Hoosier mom? Hoosier dad?"
blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts
@Mrs. Polish: I forgive you. But only because you're not a Wolverine
blogger / nectarine / 2010 posts
@Mrs. Yoyo: you can also forgive me because I've never watched a college football game in my life, besides my own which was NAIA so doesn't count at all.
blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts
@Mrs. Polish: Fear not, I'm far from rabid. I did get my master's at OSU though, so I have to pretend to care or I think they'll repossess my degree.
blogger / nectarine / 2010 posts
@Mrs. Yoyo: just like I have to pretend to live basketball. I feel like we're both living lies.

@chopsuey: tell me when u can eat sweets again and I'll send you some. My family comes from Buckeye country. We actually have a few from an amazing chocolate company up there in our fridge right now.

I just saw some buckeyes for sale in the Cracker Barrel store, so that may be an option for anyone looking to purchase some!

@LovelyPlum: It feels like a civic duty to educate the public about our weird quirks...
but i am staying out of the football talk given the state of osu football and ncaa compliance lately.

They are amazing... you dont really need to know much more than that. lol
But yeah, if you like chocolate and peanut butter, you'll probably like them.

Oh man we get a dozen buckeye every year for xmas from DH's Granny. They are delicious but I can only eat a couple (mostly because they are sweet, also because DH eats the rest so fast!).
Also, my first thought when I read this thread title was about football... but I'm a Gator girl and we have our own history with Ohio

I was well trained in how to make Buckeyes by my MIL before we got married, it was a requirement. Om nom nom!
@Mrs. Polish: LOL! I was telling my husband about this thread (hardcore Buckeye, he did 7 years at OSU... I call it remedial, he calls it a doctorate) and making fun of him like usual, he cracked up at your worthless nut comment and said at least you aren't a Wolverine
@Mrs. Yoyo: yes, college FB season is starting, sigh. My husband's "hobby" that dictates our Saturday family activities. Cue the "enthusiasm." I can relate to living the lie, lol.
