I want to say that both the buyer's and seller's agents got 3%, so 6% total? All paid by the seller. This is in New England.

ours is also 6%, with 3% going to each side all paid by the seller.
BUT - remember it IS negotiable!! When we sold our place we got the rate down to 4.5% since we had a agent who was really trying to get into our specific part of town and we also agreed to use him as our buyers agent, so he got two sides of commission but the side we paid (seller) was lower

3% to buyers agent and 3% to sellers agent is standard. We used Redfin to sell last time and it was only 1.5% to the sellers agent (so 4.5% total). In northern Virginia.

6% total, 3% on each side, and I am pretty sure we as the buyer paid. When we finally sold my husband's house in VA, I was shocked how much of the closing costs was on us *again.*

6%. Three goes to the buyer's agent and three to yours. The commission is paid by the seller completely where I am.

6-7% here with half going to the buyer's agent...all paid by the seller.

6% split between buyers agent and sellers agent. Seller pays all of it.
That being said, many people are able to negotiate since there are competitors like Redfin.

Typically 2.5% each side here.

Awesome! Thank you all for the head's up! This is our first time thinking about selling and I'm definitely clueless about a lot of this stuff. This is helping me feel more prepared for our meeting.

It is 6% here as well, all paid by the seller. I've heard but never tried that you can negotiate down to 5% if you are buying and selling and are willing to use one agent for both.

6% total. I think our selling agent went down to 2.5% because she also assisted us in buying the house to begin with.

We just sold our condo in Chicago area. Our broker for the sale was 5%. We are still in the process of looking to buy and our broker for the purchase will be 2.5%.
