We're moving to a new house in a couple weeks - what are the first things you all do when you get to a new house?
I think we'll be doing a lot of cleaning, carpet deep cleaning (we eventually will remove carpets and put in wood, but in the mean time we need to get those stains out!) and maybe start picking out paint swatches to try out on the walls in different lighting

Repainting most rooms happens in first month. It really makes the house feel fresh and like its yours!
Other top priorities (for me) are cleaning, updating any gold light fixtures, adding liners to kitchen cabinets, replacing blinds if they are super old and discolored, and trimming plants.

We are having a painter come in on our closing date and get it all done before we move anything in. We move in a month and LO is due in 9 weeks so I'm hoping to be settled before he or she comes!

Our realtor paid for a whole house cleaning and carpet cleaning, which was awesome! I also did my own spot cleaning in areas I wanted extra attention. We also changed the locks! Very important!

My husband is in the flooring business so we will never keep old carpet. If you must keep for now hire pros to clean.

We painted the inside before moving our furniture in. Also vigorous cleaning. We have hardwood floors so we didn't have to worry about changing the carpet. Scheduled air duct cleaning for the central air. Changed or added blinds & curtains. We changed the hardware on the kitchen cabinets to something more our taste. Changed the locks the day we got the keys. Made copies of the new keys for family. The appliances are only a few years old so we kept them. I ran a bowl of vinegar through the dishwasher on the hottest setting to sanitize it.

Before we moved in, we adding some lighting/rewired some outlets, painted all the walls and trim, ripped out carpet, refinished all the floors, added window treatments, steam cleaned the carpet in the playroom, moved the fridge to the garage.
All in, we closed 1 May and moved in 14 June.

We cleaned and painted before moving into our current place. First thing we did when we officially moved in was set up Internet!
