I don't remember! We are supposed to get a bad ice storm tonight and all day tomorrow. Saying communities could be without power for a week. Fingers crossed we are spared. Or we are sleeping in the living room with the fireplace. Not getting above freezing till Thurs afternoon.

4 or 5 days. Luckily it was due to a really bad wind storm that happened in the fall, so the house was actually comfortable without heat or air. And I was on city water so I could still shower (although it was cold). We just tossed all the food, got take-out ever day, and either hung out with friends after work or lit candles and played board games. Not that bad to be honest haha.

My parent and IL's lost power for 2 weeks during a hurricane back in 2006(?), but I was lucky and was on the hospital power grid and never lost it. We had people showering in our apartment for the entire time. I think most of the area lost power for at least a few days. I've only lost it for a few hours since I moved out of my parents for college. They have a sucky power co and lose power constantly for days at a time.

When I was in middle school, I remember being out of power for about a week, because of a bad ice storm.

14 days here too! Hurricane was the culprit. The second time we were hit I think it was out for like a week. But it was summer & while we were sweaty it was pretty neat adventure! (Aside from you know, all the tradegy that happened in some families & surrounding areas)

6 days. It was the fall and pretty cold.

2 weeks during the big ice storm in Montreal in 1998. We had to stay in a shelter.

A huge thunderstorm hit the day we went out of town to the beach a couple years ago. Power was out for a week, but we weren't home!

We stayed with my parents, who had power! Our apartment building sucked & it always took longer to get power back than everyone else!

@pui: DH lived in MTL during the same storm. They were 10 days without power but were able to stay at home. He remembers it fondly like an adventure

A week or so during the freak october snowstorm a couple years ago! We stayed with my sister since they had a generator. Our house is pretty tiny so I think we'd do ok for a few days with just the fireplace as long as we were stocked up on wood.

We lost power for 7 days due to flooding this past summer. We moved into a hotel in a different city because most of the hotels here had no power either. I was 9 months pregnant with a breach baby and a huge dog and it was pitch black in the stairwells of our condo building, so we couldn't have stayed here if we had wanted to make an adventure out of it!

2 weeks after Hurricane Ike came through. Didn't have safe water for most of that time, either. It sucked!

4 days after hurricane sandy hit my town hard (jersey shore) - but we were lucky compared to most towns that were hit, they were without power for 2 weeks and we got ours back relatively fast!

Maybe 6 hours. It was -30 and the house got mighty cold. If it had been days, we would have had to stay with family.

I think it was 9 days. It was after a hurricane so it was brutally hot, but at least we didn't have to worry about staying safe in the cold. It was awful!

During Sandy everyone around us lost power but we were fine. Then during Nemo we lost power while everyone around us was fine! We lasted from when it went out at 8pm til the next day around 10:30am when the temp in the house went below 54. We had to get the kids somewhere warmer (no fireplace or any other source of heat). So it took WS and our neighbor 1.5 hours to shovel a 10 foot path for our car to get out and we went to a friend's house. There was a travel ban but I called our cop friend who told us to go, they weren't stopping anyone. The roads were totally cleared and creepily empty. Our neighbor called us to tell us our power came back at around 6pm so we went home! The only thing that sucked really badly was having to pump and charge our phones in the car. We don't have a garage!

Over a week. We had to go crash at a friend's b/c there was no heat.
I was trying to finish writing my dissertation and apply for jobs at that time. Not awesome!
