We live in a 900-1000 sq ft apt (not sure on the exact footage. 2 bd/ 1 bath, and the main room is open floor plan kitchen, dining and living room. It's compact but it works for our family of three. I just need to declutter a bit more.
If/when we buy a house, I would like a minimum of 1800 to accommodate future kid(s)

Probably what we're living in now, which I think is around 1000 sq feet with one bathroom and 2 bedrooms. However, we do have some basement space where we can store stuff.
We would definitely like more space lol.

There are three of us in 2100 square feet now, it's a bit more than we use on a daily basis, but I know when my son gets older, it will feel like it is too small.
I can't go to less space, so that would be our minimum. I have no desire to declutter and live with less, the amount of stuff we have is reasonable.

We live in 1450 SF. Our last house was 1800 SF and felt like too much space, but I couldn't imagine going smaller than what we have now if we have 2 kids. If we just have one, I could do this for a long time! Or go slightly smaller like 1200-1300 SF if the space was planned out to be really functional. (I don't like big houses! I'm always up for smaller lol)

@Mrs. Pen: Ours is really similar to yours, but it feels too small right now. We have too much stuff and no where to put it, and most of it isn't stuff we can just get rid off, like several pieces of furniture we just inherited.
Ideally I'd like at least 1500sq, or at least a third bedroom.

My house is almost 2600 sq feet and it feels too big right now but we are expecting more occupants (and stuff) in the future..
I think we looked at a 1800 sq foot house and it was a little too small for us....I think just a little bigger would be nice!

We live in a roughly 850-square-foot apartment right now and it would be just about right (just the 2 of us) if we had more storage. We were living in a 650-sqaure-foot apartment and it was doable, but definitely felt cramped. So technically we *could* live in a smaller place, but I wouldn't really want to. Ideally, for just the two of us, I'd like 1,000 square feet.

Our current house is pretty big--2600sq ft. It's 4 bedrooms and has a second living room. I think with the baby coming we could comfortably live in a 3 bedroom with just 1 living room. So maybe 2000ish sq ft?

We were in a 940sq 2 bed/2 bath apartment but just moved into a 1600 sq ft 3 bed/1.75bath home with a yard and garage. We don't have kids yet but plan on making the guest bed into a nursery if we have to.

We live in 900 sq ft. house right now (two of us plus baby in March) and it's not bad but the layout is terrible (think 80's ranch house) and we don't have a garage for storage. When we first moved in together we lived in 550! No clue how we did that, but I think my ideal is 1800+.

We live in about 1300 sq ft now and it feels tight sometimes, but we don't really use one of our three bedrooms, except for storage. I think the minimum would be about 1000 to be comfortable. But I want more living/dining space for entertaining and an open kitchen. We are planning to add on to our current home, but I also stalk redfin all the time, just in case.

We're in 1200 sq ft townhouse with no storage or basement. It's 2 bd/1.5 baths and is fine with baby although SUPER CLUTTERED. We're moving this spring though to a better school district, single-family home. We're hoping for 4 BR so our parents can stay with us when they visit instead of blowing money on hotels every time (all 3 sets are flights away) and in case we decide on another LO. We're looking at 1800+.

Probably around 1500 sq ft realistically. But that would require a LOT of downsizing on our part. Our current home is 2300 sq ft for the top two levels and has a unfinished basement (read: our laundry and storage area!) as well.

We used to live in a 900sq ft apartment and that was fine for the two of us. We bought a 2200sq ft house thinking of the future. We don't use all the space regularly, but like having it because all of our family is out of town and we have plenty of room when they stay.

We live in 860 now...it is totally fine for us now since its well laid out but we could use more storage, esp with a LO on the way. Our next house, I want 1 more bedroom and better closets. A basement would be nice, but I'd have to give up parking and that isn't happening!

We're in 1,445 sq ft and it works perfect for our lil family of 3 (minus the lack of storage). But when family is in town, forget it. Super duper cramped.

I think I could live in about 850 square feet, 2 bedrooms. Right now there are 3 of us but I could probably do it with 4. I mean, I'll live in whatever is the best option of the options I have!
@HolisticMama: According to trulia one of the apartments dh and I lived in in college ws 250 square feet. I thought it was more like 300 or so. Another website says 375 (zillow.) It was basically a hotel room turned into a studio.Edit to add...and we were pretty happy there, and comfortable, with just the two of us!

Layout matters so much! I think 2,000 would be very doable for a family of 4 or 5...especially if the neighborhood is good for playing outside and/or there is a yard in the back.
We have almost 2600 square feet and it's just right for the 3 of us right now and we know we will have at least 1 more kid (possibly 2 more but highly unlikely). Our downstairs feels cramped to me but our upstairs has so much unused space. I think 3,000 square feet would be perfect...I would love a huge gourmet kitchen and a giant family room.

Our condo was about 650 sq ft plus unfinished basement and it was a little annoying but worked for three of us. The biggest problem was having DS's room right off the kitchen and bathroom. With a different layout it would have been totally fine. I think it only worked because of the basement storage, otherwise we couldn't have done it.

We have 1900 sqft right now and we're busting out. We are searching homes right now. 2500 is the minimum we've given our realtor, we'd prefer to be at 3500. But we live in a low cost of living area. I'm sure we could do with less space if we lived in a larger city.

It's all about the storage! This house is about 1500 sqft, but it has small closets and not much in the way of storage space, so it just seems so cluttered all the time.
I could live smaller, if we had an attic or garage to help put things elsewhere.

We're in 2150 right now and it works for us.
Our house will be 3400 sq feet not including our partially finished basement.
I think the minimum we could live in (with older kids) would be what we're in now.

We've lived in a 700-ish, and honestly I think we could make it work with one kid, except for storage. I have a lot of Christmas stuff and that's not changing, so we'd need a little more room for that. The house we just put an offer on is 1400, and it's plenty. Anything too big and I just feel overwhelmed by the fact that I have to clean it and furnish it.

We live in 2500 sqft but a bunch of it is unused. I wish we could reallocate some of that space better! I like having storage for different things like sports equipment and hobbies. I'm kind of a hoarder 
but I like to just think of myself as someone with many interests

We are at about 4000 sq ft and it's big for just me and dh. But we will soon be a family of 4 so I'm sure it'll feel perfect. 3000 is probably the lowest I'd go down to if I still wanted to be comfortable and not get rid of any of our stuff.
