This is sooo familiar, LO has been ending up in our bed several nights out of the week too after waking up scared/crying/ect. DH usually moves to the couch because DD kicks him until he can't stand it. I have a fort of pillows around me these days so she can't really "get" to me in our King size bed. However, we really need to figure out a way to keep her in her bed without a middle of the night meltdown.

If they were wide awake and there was no hope, I used to redo the whole sleep routine: books, bottle, brushing, etc. If that didn't work, I would push the kids in the stroller outdoors til they passed out!

Well my LO is not typically a great sleeper, and it totally depends on who is getting up with her. I'm more strict and am more likely to just pat her in her crib and then leave and let her cry a bit---but lately I've been sick so my husband has been doing wakeups and his approach is the exact opposite--he always picks her up, rocks her (this gets her excited so then she wants to play), then he ends up making milk for her (sigh) and eventually cosleeping with her in the bed in her room.

I'm gonna have to get her sleep under control when I'm feeling better. I see more sleep training in our future.

If there's no hope, I either sleep on his floor with him (but my pregnant body is starting to object!)--I usually do this when he's vomiting--I don't want that in our bed!, or DH moves to the guest room and I sleep in bed with DS. I don't sleep either way, but at least DH gets good sleep and then he'll get up with him and I can get another 30-45 minutes before DH leaves for work.

ETA: It's generally easy enough to get him to go back to sleep now (at just over 2) with talking or a 2-3 minute cry session. He knows the drill. The answer above is more for when he's teething or sick.
