Just for fun: What do you have as a tree topper? Growing up we had a snowflake tree topper so that's what I got for our tree.

Star. Growing up we had an angel and for a few years we had a Yoda doll.

Nothing for the last few years. I haven't found one I liked yet.
We did a bow a few years ago and growing up we always had an angel.

I've always had a star as the tree topper. My husband grew up with an angel topper.

What originally started as a joke initiated by DH, turned into a tradition for us. When we moved in together and got our first real tree, we couldn't afford decorations so we were given some hand-me-down things that did not include a topper. So I came home one night to see DH had put the Grim Reaper TY Beenie Baby. I think this year we'll get a star, though - just got our tree the other day and are going to decorate it tomorrow

@lovehoneybee: If I could find a good Yoda topper, that's what I'd use!

Growing up, we always had an angel. In the past, we've had an angel and a star, but I couldn't find either one this year in our decorations. So, now we have an owl sitting on a pinecone ornament filling in

We use an oversized ornament from Target as our tree "topper" since the snowman I bought didn't work last year. It's cute for now.

Ours is also just a regular ornament wedged up there. Most of the official tree toppers I tried were too tall or heavy.

@lovehoneybee: so pretty!
Growing up we always had an angel. One year our angel had lughts and her skirt glowed. Now she is a nightlight in the guest bathroom in my mom's house. I'm not sure what we will do. I live the idea of a star.

@swedishfish: I like that!
@mrs. 64: we had that problem with a start that we had a few years ago. It was so heavy!

Nothing, we use to have a star but it was kind of ugly. I need to find a new one!

A star. I'd like a new one. The one we have is too small.

We have an angel. My parents and his parents use angels too.

I have a very colorful star. I love it, but it's always lopsided, and I'm starting to think that the above posts about using big ornaments might be something I'll try next year.

We have a bow! I looked all over for one this year and couldn't find one I like so I made it. Despite watching countless YouTube videos, I still had to use some bobby pins to keep it together. haha. Oh well, you can't tell from a far;)

A bird! It's sort of become Vi's thing, and now I can't stop buying bird decor!

A pig.
My grandfather had a pig valve in his heart so every year we celebrated his "piggy birthday." We were really close so when he passed I inherited his pig collection. So, every year I top our tree with a piggy in rememberence of my grandfather

We have Mr. Bingle. It's a New Orleans thing. And he's a 2007, for Ellie's birth-year. We'll maybe have to retire him for a more neutral year at some point-- maybe the year Mr. T and I got married?

@rahlyrah: oh, I love that! What a great way to remember your grandfather.

@Torchwood: I think it was just a puppet? But I think it was rubbery. I don't quite remember, but I remember it was hollow enough inside that we could put a branch up there.

We looked for the perfect tree topper the first year we moved into our house with no luck. Instead we plopped on a big kusudama flower ball, and it's been on our tree every year ever since.

I grew up with a Winnie the Pooh ornament as the tree topper. I never asked why. It isn't a themed tree or anything like that.
The year DH and I first decorated I found an identical ornament at a second hand store. Now Winnie tops my tree too.

we've never managed to get our act together and get a really nice tree topper. i do think they're nice though! we just wind the lights around the top.

On one of our trees we have a cheap star from walmart or target or something. On our nicer tree we have nothing. I have this idea that I want to get a crystal star topper thats really nice for that tree and it will be like an heirloom piece⦠but I can't ever find anything I like. Seems like everything I see is plastic which I'm just not interested in.

We have a super bright star. It outshines our trees because there's so many lights on it. haha!
nectarine / 2600 posts
Growing up we always had a light-up star. I couldn't find anything like that here, so DH pulled all the lights out of an old one from the US (diff voltage here) and rigged it up with a light strand we bought here, and it's perfect! :-). (For me at least. I realize our tree is pretty gaudy!
