I had a b-day party when I was 9, 16, and 18 and they were all the same - just invited friends over for dinner and we either stayed in and watched a movie or played games (when I was 9), or just sat and talked. My parents weren't into throwing me big parties.
What kind of parties did you have?

When I was really little I had birthday parties where we would go to the park and thete were lots of people invited but as I got older it was just close family for dinner.

i mostly had either parties in school (like bring cupcakes from home and have a small party in my classroom)... or my parents would invite all the kids from church to come over and we'd have some cake and do whatever we did.
the only 1 real party i had was my sweet 16 - there were like 4 of us with november bdays, so this one girl threw a party at her house for all of us.

Yeah, me too. My parents weren't into throwing parties. I just had a few friends over and we usually ordered pizza and just played around in our backyard. I always wanted big parties though since all of my friends had big fun parties. I hope to be able to make my LO feel special on his birthday.

When I was younger I always had a friend party, usually at Peter Piper Pizza (kind of like Chuck E Cheese, I think, if Peter Piper doesn't exist in your area) or Skatetown, the roller rink.
As I got older these parties morphed into sleepovers and then stopped altogether, except when I was 16-18 I'd go out to dinner and movie with friends.
I also had a separate, casual dinner at home party with just family (BBQ or Mexican food).
I love birthdays! I'm trying to get my husband to care about them for when we have kiddos someday.

My parties were awesome. Always themed, and my mom did tons of diy. When I was tiny I had a carebears party, my mom made my sister and me matching dresses. I had a 50s diner, a pirate party, ice skating, hay ride, magician. In middle school my parents got me and some friends a hotel room on the beach, of course they stayed right next door.
This is why I'm so excited for lo's birthday parties, my mom was a good party role model.

1st Birthday: A couple friends over
2nd Birthday: Barney
3rd Birthday: Under the Sea
4th Birthday: Princess Tea Party
5th Birthday: Farm Animals
After that, my mom said "I'm done, plan your own parties". And so I did.
