For the past 2 years, DS asks for one of those big cookie cakes, lol. I think he sees them in the grocery store year round and loves that he can finally have a reason to have one, lol.
ETA: OH! You asked what SO likes, haha...whoops.
DH likes Angel food cake with strawberries and cool whip. I ask for the same thing on mine, so we're definitely soul mates, lol.

Carrot Cake!
He even requested that the top layer of our wedding cake be Carrot cake!

No requests--we usually go out to a nice restaurant to eat on birthdays, and he's not a big sweets guy to begin with.
@Dandelion: that's what we always had growing up in my family for birthdays!

Carvel Ice Cream cake. Every year. MIL thinks cheesecake is his favorite for some reason, so we also have that at their house.

No requests - I just make him something new and adventurous. And, quite honestly, whatever it is is usually quite disappointing

A cheesecake as well. He's not into cakes much but he LOVES a good homemade cheesecake. I made him a baileys flavoured one last year but just bought one this year as I didn't have time to make one.

Wagon Sr. loves anything with fresh strawberries and he is an ice cream fanatic. So usually we'll get a strawberry shortcake type cake or an ice cream cake. He also loves fruit pies! Actually he loves cheesecake as well...

Carrot cake...apparently I spent forever making him a carrot cake once and he remembered.

Cheesecake, preferably dulce de leche, but any cheesecake will do.

A long time ago he told me how much he likes black forest cakes. I never had one before that, so I made one. It was SO yummy! Hes not much of a sweets guy, so I don't usually bake him anything.

White cake with white frosting and white sprinkles he is so vanilla lol.

Dairy Queen ice cream cake - which means I have to drive a half hour to the nearest year-round Dairy Queen, since his birthday is in March!

@raspberries: It's funny, in Quebec very few DQs were open year round, but here in Ontario they all seem to be. DH's family usually get ice cream cakes for their birthdays from there because they are almost all gluten free.

@raspberries: my DH loves DQ ice cream cake and also has a March bday. thankfully ours are open year-round where we live.
DH never actually requests a particular dessert. he's easy. DQ cake is his fave but i think i've only bought him one twice! other years i pick something else up or make something.

@pui: @jhd: I'm jealous that you both live near year-round DQs! Usually the ONLY thing DH requests for his birthday is Dairy Queen ice cream cake, so I feel like making the extra drive is worth it (but if it was right down the street, it'd be much MORE with it )

He's not a sweets guy, so I usually just get something I like (terrible I know). But he'll only eat a bite or two, so might as well get something I enjoy

Brownies.
This past birthday, though, he decided that he really wanted a Carvel ice cream cake. I was thrilled that he wanted an actual cake of some sort and really wanted to make him an ice cream cake, but he was set on the Carvel. After one piece, though, he told me that it wasn't nearly as good as he remembered and he wished that I'd have made it (I was going to make one with a brownie base and peanut butter ice cream...)

I make him Key Lime Pie usually. but he really wants Hummingbird Cake. I don't know how to make it. So his BFF's Mom, like his 2nd Mom, always makes it for him.

For his last birthday, DH requested cinnamon rolls with a maple glaze! So we went out to dinner and came home to eat those. I was really surprised and had no idea he liked my cinnamon rolls so much.
His mom/sister usually make him a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

He has requested different things, such as Boston creme pie and black forest cake. But he most frequently requests German chocolate cake-I think he loves the nuts and coconut!

Yellow cake with white frosting. Both from the box/can. It actually kind of annoys me. I am a great cook, and he wants a Duncan Hines cake?
Me, I LOOOOVVVVVE me some carrot cake. Yum.

@pui: My DH also usually wants cheesecake! But I've never attempted making it. Last year he mixed it up and we got an ice cream cake from Coldstone.
@bpcmarj: My MIL is like that too - she likes to tell (and sometimes corrects!) me about what his favorites are. Because, you know, no one changes their mind about their favorite anything after moving out of their parent's house. I was saved last year when she made a snarky comment about how I never make DH's favorite dessert for him (she thinks it's an Oreo pudding thing) just because I don't like it and he asked, "Mom, what do you think my favorite dessert is?" haha.
@septca: Yep, I'm that person. I only like frosting from a can. My mom eventually found a local baker who would use it instead of buttercream because I would never eat cakes she got for my special occasions.

DH doesn't eat cake so and would never request anything so I ordered him a cookie cake (just a giant cookie) from Mrs. Fields!!

for his last two birthdays, dh has asked for this cake!

it is sooo good. apple pie is his favorite, and cakes (and everything else) from milk bar in nyc are to die for...

Ice cream cake, but in general. I planned to make him a no bake Oreo cake like we had years ago, but his birthday was missed because of a family funeral.
