We stopped using a diaper pail once Charlie started eating chunky solids. The diaper pail smelled so bad, it was easier just to empty a regular trashcan daily.
Do you have a diaper pail that contains smells well? Or do you just use a regular trashcan?

Last year when I was trying to use up FSA money, I searched for FSA-eligible baby items on drugstore.com. For some reason, the Dekor XL diaper pail qualified (and the refills), so that's what I use. I've been pleased with it and its smell-trapping.

We have been using the Dekor Plus diaper pail for the last 18 months and it contains the smell very well. It also holds a lot so you're not constantly emptying it.

@Sandsandmore: You can buy baby supplies with FSA money? Is this a medical FSA or dependant care FSA? I never knew that... or maybe I never looked. Good to know. I should check it out.

@bluestriped bee. it really varies. I was able to get a lot more stuff last year before the gov't changed the FSA reqs (OTC meds, etc). I used drugstore.com and was able to search for only things that were FSA-eligible (I used my medical FSA). Fewer things are eligible this year, but you can still get stuff. Definitely look on a site that only shows you the FSA stuff b/c if you then use your FSA debit card, you don't get asked to submit receipts or anything.

@Sandsandmore: Yeah, the OTC meds changes really sucked last year. I did get my doctor to write me a Rx for it so I could get reimbursed for some of the OTC meds that I use regularly like allergy meds.
I'll definitely check out drugstore.com I always just go to the store, pull out that checklist on what is covered and buy things at the store. Never thought to check online. It's probably so much easier to do it that way.

We have the Dekor Plus in Max's room upstairs, and downstairs we just use the kitchen trashcan, which has a lid. If it's an especially gross diaper I'll put it in a plastic bag before throwing it into the kitchen trash, or just take out the trash immediately.

I have the Diaper Genie 1 (or whatever the cheaper version is called) and I haaaaaate it. My friend has the 2 with the foot pedal, and it's so much nicer. With ours, you have to actually smoosh the diapers down past the weird trapper/flap thing, and it's super gross. You get your hands dirty all the time. It does keep the smell out though. I just wish we had splurged the extra $15 or whatever the cost is for the foot pedal one that opens the flap automatically. No smooshing required!

we just use simple human trash cans we already had around the house. rolling up the dirty diaper closed helps keep the smell out too.
