We need replace our vacuum.
Oh, anyone remember the Dyson animal complete I found at Target on clearance for $260 about 2 months ago? Yeah, I should have gotten it. At the time, DH said our vacuum worked fine. Dammit! Of course, a month later our vacuum breaks. I was going to get it but I didn't want to explain to the DH when he sees it hidden in my trunk. Haha.

Ours is a Dyson ball, but one step down from animal. We've had it five years and it still works well.
ETA: We have pets and it does a good job with that.

@StbHisMrs: Cool! Thank you for the comparison. I've never had a Shark before and I believe Costco might have the Shark Lift Away Navigator. Good to know you like your Shark one over the Dyson.

I didn't see the pet part in the title, we have a cat, and the previous owners had a dog and the amount of stuff this vacuum picks up is amazing!

Argh that sucks! I hate missing out on deals until you realized you needed it! We have the Dyson Animal and it does a great job w/ my dog's hair. But we only bust that out once a week or less... We usually turn on the Roomba or I use my little Bissell handheld for the couch or random spots.

We have a Meile and love it! Works great on hardwood and carpet and picks up all the dog and cat hair!

@bluestriped bee: Second the Shark Lift Away Navigator, we have a dog and it does great with her hair. I used my friend's Dyson and then did the Shark over it and it picked up more than the Dyson!

We had the old style Dyson Animal but upgraded to the Dyson Animal Ball. The ball is an adjustment to use but I like it so far. We got it on http://www.woot.com as a factory refurb and it was under $300.

@Greentea: I agree... I love the power, but hate the weight! I always make DH vacuum lol. Getting a Roomba was so helpful for us to deal w/ pet hair on a daily basis!

@Greentea: I would def get one of those if you have the $! I got mine from BBB w/ the 20% coupon. I was considering getting a refurb one too.
I really like it! I was realistic in knowing that I still have to do some work - Gotta clean out the trash bin often (since it's small) & I have to remove clutter from the area to maximize the surface it can clean. And I do have to lug it up & down the stairs into diff rooms/areas, but all that is very little work comparing to actually vacuuming! It goes on rugs I have too!

@snowjewelz: I want a roomba! It's on my wish list, I don't think I can convince the DH that we need one. Maybe I'll look at some black friday ads next year.

We have a Hoover Bagged Upright and I LOVE it. We have a 60 lb shedding machine, I mean dog, and the Hoover does a fabulous job. We've had it for over a year and it works wonderfully. I've gone through so many vacuums (all bag-less) and this one really gets the hair up. I also like that it uses a bag because there's less dust in the air. I used to hate cleaning out the filter of the bag-less vacuums, which is possibly why they stopped working, but so far we haven't have any issues with this vacuum.

@Greentea: & @snowjewelz: my parents have a dyson & hate it as well, the attachments & how heavy it is. My mom loves my vacuum compared to her dyson. I have a Hoover platinum, it's super lightweight & there is a smaller one you use with attachments (it makes me feel like a ghostbuster 
).

@mrs. bird: Ugh except I'd have to wait till my Dyson dies; it's not even a year old! I should've thought about the weight factor, but I was a spoiled child who didn't vacuum much at home.

We have the Shark Lift Away Navigator too and LOVE it! (I have 2 cats, and 2 lab mixes who shed a TON!!)

@mrs. bird: @ktdid23: Ah, bagged vacuums. Yeah, we have a bagless one and it is a pain when we had to empty it. It would sometimes bother DH's asthma, so he had to wait til I got home to do it.
If I get a bagless one, i would have to find a canister that is contained and DH could simply take it outside or the garage to empty.

We have an older Dyson Slim, a Dyson handheld, a Roomba, and we just returned a Shark Rocket and got a Bissell Poweredge Pet. What I really want is a Miele! We will never be getting another Dyson; they're actually pretty terrible for people with allergies.
