LO is 16 months. Lately, i love these 2 phrases:
"Not yours" has been a very effective alternative to "no". She puts it back right away without a fight! Well, except if it's a straw...then she gives me the saddest man in the world face.
"Clean up time!" She dropped a bowl of cheerios on the floor, and after saying the phrase she picked up all the cheerios and put it back in the bowl! She'll do it with most messes she makes.
Any "magic phrases" you care to share?

"Last one". We use it all the time. If he's watching TV..."last one!" and then we turn it off. If he wants another cookie 'Ok. Last one!" If he wants us to read him the same book for the 20th time..."last one!". It's funny because he uses it himself now. If he wants to eat something yummy, like ice cream, he'll say "Can I have ice cream? Yes? Ok! Last one!" (he asks and answers his own questions).

'All done' is good for ending a meal or even any toy she plays with. If I need to get her to do something else I say those words and she understands and doesnt flip out!

Ah-ah, that's not for (touching/eating/pushing/playing/etc). She really does listen when I ah-ah, it amazes me every time.
Bring that to dada works any time I want her to go bug DH instead of me! lol! Oh, I'm sitting here on HB and you've just brought me a toy... Bring it to dada! She lights up and goes to find him.

We do "one more" & "all done" a lot. Instead of "No" I have started to say "not yours" as well. This works good because at 10 months she has started to point to the dog (usually she's in her stuff when we say it.)

Emma is 10 months and does well with "No way Jose!" (will stop what she's doing/drop what she has right away) and "Time for bed." (she'll collapse to the floor and pretend to sleep until you bring her to her crib).

5 minutes! This is just so that he doesn't have to abruply stop what he's doing with no warning.
We also have, "just because another kid is doing something naughty, doesn't mean that you have to." We repeat that one a lot, and he's good at remembering. It's helpful with things that go on at school.

Mostly we use "No Thank You". He likes to fight going potty so we say things like "you can't do x until you go potty". Apparently you can reason with a toddlerist.

He always wants to feed our dog his food during meals so we say "Not for Zumi, for Kai" and he will stop offering the dog food and put it in his mouth.
We also use 'last one' so he doesn't freak out if there's no more food left. Once it's done we say 'all done.' On the flip side, if he's asking to get down from his chair during a meal, I'll say "are you all done?" If he says no, then I tell him to keep eating and he almost always puts another bite in his mouth.
Honestly, I just love telling my LO a bunch of different commands to see how much he understands and what he can do! I love this stage!!

"Outside?" She (and the dog) beeline for the coat rack (where leash and hat hang).

@prettylizy: bahaha I do that too when he wants me to read the same book for the fifth time in a row - go give this to daddy! he wants to read it to you lol and he teeters off
All done is the best phrase. Whether it's snack time, bath time, reading, playing etc when I say all done he knows it's time to be done.
