My favorite is when they learn how to get down safely.... like turning around to go backwards.
Not the most exciting, but I can breathe a little easier.

I was really looking forward to T sitting on her own, now that she can its just as great as I thought it would be. She's just so cute sitting and reading or waiting and reaching for me in her crib.
Now I'm looking forward to when I don't have to get in the pool with her during swim lessons- which won't be for well over a year.

Talking. I know people say you'll regret it once they start talking and you'll miss when they weren't. BUT I LOVE, LOVE the word explosion and I love listening to DD piece together thoughts and its so fun to communicate with her

I really looked forward to her talking. I couldn't wait to hear her little voice and to hear her tell me what she was thinking and what interested her.
I have to say, as well, that it didn't disappoint. I got home from work on Tuesday and she ran to me, shouting "Mummy, mummy, mummy... look.... I got leaves!" then she ran into the lounge and brought me these two beautiful red/brown leaves. "I like leaves, mummy, I kicking!". DH said "she wanted to bring them home to show you". I'm still smiling about it now!

Talking is the best. Then they can tell you what they need and there is so much less frustration.

Walking - I hated seeing her so frustrated that she couldnt do or go where she wanted
Talking - my kid is funny! I love hearing the things she says

Walking, talking, and eating regular foods. Now that dd is potty trained that's nice too. It just becomes easier and more fun to do things and be out and about when they hit those milestones (along with less naps.)

The first smile. I really struggled in the newborn days and I told myself every day to wait for the smile. And it truly did make it all more bearable.
And also sitting on his own. That sweet spot between 6-8 months when you can sit them on the floor unassisted and Walk away and know they'll still be there when you come back from the bathroom, kitchen, laundry, etc is THE BEST!

At first it was the usual stuff, but now I am looking forward to reading and writing. All the learning, basically, I am always amazed at how the mind works.

@looch: I'm also looking forward to reading and writing for my older LO!
For the younger one, increasing her verbal ability and potty training!

Right now and since flu/cold season is here.... learning to blow his nose will be great!
Also, saying actual words - he babbles up a storm so he's almost there!

Crawling and walking. Everyone says, "Watch out now!" or something like it when they get mobile but I just think it makes your life so much easier!

The milestone I was most excited about her first year was smiling/laughing. Things were rough there for a while and I knew that once she started "giving back" a little bit, it would be easier (it was).
Now I'm most excited for her to start talking. I guess physical stuff is less exciting to me because like... okay you walked yay but honestly it just makes my life harder lol. The personality/connection stuff is what I really love.

With Xander it was talking. And now potty training!
With Logan, I really looked forward to him crawling and walking. He gets so frustrated not being able to keep up with Xander!!

Sleeping through the night, haha. Too bad I had to wait so long (and really, still wait). I'm wondering if the baby will STTN regularly before my 2 year old does.

I was so excited once K could go from crawling back up to sitting, etc. Made herself so much more mobile so I don't need to help her!
And also STTN! We didn't sleep train so I had been waiting for that one!

Having all of his teeth so I never have to deal with teething again.
Or him saying, "I love you." I'm leaning towards the teeth thing, though.

Sttn was the big one in the early days. Then it was talking, I LOVE the talking it makes me so happy!

Talking! I LOVE every new word, and the fascinating order in which she is picking them up.
LO has been a daddy's girl from the beginning, and "Dada" was one of her first words she used purposefully. Well, she finally just started saying "Mama" at 14 months a few weeks ago, and then this week she started saying "Mommy! Mommy!" in the mornings when DH gets her out of the crib and she runs into our room. It is the sweetest music EVER.
The other day she kicked a ball down our hallway and said "Goal!!" My husband and I looked at each other like "Did she really just say that?" Then she repeated it a few times. Turns out our nanny, who is from Central America, taught her that. So cute! We never know what she'll come out with next!

Smiling...it felt like all the sleepless nights were more than worth it after that first smile!
