I usually add an ornament every year but I haven't picked on out this year. What were you latest additions or favorites.

We made some really cute ones this year that look like snow globes with pictures from the year. I made a few for our tree and a whole bunch as presents.

Many years ago someone gifted me the white house ornament for that year.. I have since collected them for significant years in my life and this year I asked for it from DH. This year it's a helicopter! I can't wait to see it! I think i'll keep collecting them and once I have enough I'll eventually just have a tree with white house ornaments on it.
I also make handprint orney's with the kids yearly and I tend to buy ornaments from places we travel (this past year was Key west and Vermont). Those are already on the tree

So, I get an ornament that represents something important from that year: so far we have our wedding, lo #1 first Christmas, our first house, getting a dog, #2 first Christmas. This year, we picked out a pair of scissors...for DH's vasectomy.

Every year we take the kids to the store and let them pick something, and then every year I get annoyed that they refuse to pick something meaningful and reflective of their year. This year B picked a Minecraft dragon (he doesn’t play Minecraft) and W picked an electric guitar with the Batman symbol on it. Sigh.
We also got an ornament from our family trip to Disney World, and had one made with a sweet picture of the boys from our family photo session.

@crazydoglady: This is SO FUNNY! Love it.
I like to buy family ornaments for milestones like a lot of people mentioned - married, first house, new baby, etc. as well as for travels we've taken. We bought ornaments at Disney during the years of each LO's first visit. And we're going to NYC this weeknd so I plan to pick up an ornament while we are there.
Some years I also do individual ornaments for our family members that represent something they like or something from the year - first day of kindergarten (DD1), graduation from grad school (me), or interests like a character from their favorite show or movie that year.
I love Hallmark, and they often have great deals online before Christmas. Trying to keep our spending low this year though so I am trying to stick to our family ornament vs. individual ones and not look!!

@crazydoglady: So funny!
Motorcycle for DS, Doggie for DD, Rocky Mountain Park ornament for us.
Connecticut ornament for me and my surprise half-sisters. We were all conceived through a sperm donor in CT, and none of us knew until this year.

The kids each get an ornament (usually to "take" with them someday when they move out to their own houses), and we do a family ornament. This year we got a strawberry ornament for DD, a "my first christmas" ornament for DS, and a holly bell ornament as a family. I also got each child an initial ornament (because I likely won't want to part with DS's ornament someday )

Every Christmas the girls pick out a new ornament! So now we're up to the 3rd princess, and my oldest actually picked up this really pretty Swarovski one!
I realized I'll def need to get a bigger tree one day if all 3 kids get to each pick a new ornament each year....

@erinbaderin: LOL. This would be my DS, but I pick out the yearly ornaments since they’re from our elf. I think you’ve got to look at it more like a moment in time of what they think is “cool.” I’m sure one day you can all laugh about their choices.

@graceandjoy: I’ve thought of doing something like this for each kid. Or even just their own small tree.

@BadgerMom: Oo, I love that idea! I was def thinking of doing their own little tree in their rooms at some point (thanks to IG influencers lol)

This year we visited the Magnolia market by Chip & Joanna and picked out two from their Christmas collection. I picked out the hot air balloon and the kids picked the truck carrying a tree.

I always get my husband and E new ornaments for Christmas this year it's a model of the love statue for my husband since it was our 5 year anniversary, for E an ice cream cone bc she loves it so much and then we pick up ornaments on trips and as specific mementos. My grandfather also carves wooden ornaments for each of us to paint so they get added too

DH and I get one to represent us/our family/our house if there is a natural fit that year. Nothing major happened this year so I don’t think we will get a new one. DD gets a new ornament every year - she gets to pick it but we do have veto power. So far they are all Hallmark keepsake ornaments, she picked Elsa riding the water horse this year.
I did make some ornaments for our tree this year - a few pokeballs because DH has been introducing DD to Pokémon and they are having a blast. And donuts because DD is obsessed and it seemed fun.

@crazydoglady: HAHA I love that Also, we really are on the same timeline. DH just got his vasectomy last month.
I started doing a new ornament for each LO to symbolize the year. For DS #1 it is a soccer ball because this was his first year playing a sport and for DS#2 it is a Dumbo ornament because Circus Peanut was the theme of his first birthday.

We try to do one that fits the year. Last year we went to Disney with the big kids before baby was born so they each got a Disney one, then baby came and got first Christmas. This year we built a house and moved in so I got them each a different little house ornament. I’m loving this tradition of adding one each year for the kids. Plan to box them up and give them to them for their own first tree when they move out one day... ️

Each year we pick an ornament for our LO that represents a favorite thing for the year. One year was a penguin because she loved the "My Personal Penguin" book as a baby. One year was Daniel Tiger. This year she is super into dress up and princesses this year so we got her this one as a way to represent that: https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-3780375/lc-lauren-conrad-glitter-metal-crown-ornament

@crazydoglady: HA!
New baby ornament club over here too and freaking HAPPY about it! You all are making me so excited to give DS an ornament every year and see what he picks out when he's older!

@Ajsmommy: I've never heard of the White House ornaments! They are gorgeous, thanks so much for sharing this!
We buy a Hallmark ornament every year, something that represents our year as a family. This year we bought two: a cute travel trailer to represent our first year camping together and an adorable angel baby to represent the loss we experienced this year.
I've been contemplating placing small cards inside each box to explain why we chose each one and after reading this thread, I commit to doing that this year!

After we saw Santa I let DS1 pick an ornament to represent himself and his brother.

@Ajsmommy: my FIL works at the Pentagon and has given his kids White House ornaments every year (16 years running now!). I'm hopeful in the future when we have room for two full sized trees that I can do a WH tree. I love the ornaments!!!
DH and I married in December 2013 and collected ornaments on our honeymoon. I've since tried to find one that sums up our big family adventure each year. This year we went on a family trip to Hawaii, so I picked up a blown glass sea turtle.

I have a minor obsession with bottle brush ornaments and this year Pottery Barn has one with a big polar bear reading a book to a little polar bear - couldn't pass or up

@SweetCaroline: The white house ornaments are very pretty and they each come in the nicest/cutest little box I just love them.

My MIL gets DS a radko ornament every year. Pricey and totally impractical (super fragile) but very pretty! This is his FIFTH Christmas so we’ll get our fifth one. Crazy!
