I'm almost done with season 7 of Gilmore Girls and want to get into another series I've never watched before. I hear Parenthood is pretty good. Any other suggestions?

We just finished American Horror Story, seasons 1-3. It's good, but it isn't for everyone. Probably the total opposite of Gilmore Girls
We started Dexter this weekend and it's alright so far!

American Horror Story
Breaking Bad
Orange is the New Black
Sons of Anarchy

@hotchildinthecity: ditto to all of these!
Also House of Cards, The Killing, Luther, and I just started Peaky Blinders, which is pretty good so far.

This reddit thread has a lot of great suggestions! Also, FRIENDS is going to start streaming on the 1st, I think.

We just started watching Blue Blood (cop show) and it's really good!
ETA it reminds me a lot of Parenthood!

Parenthood is great. I also liked Call the Midwife, The Good Wife, OITNB, Sons of Anarchy... Hmm, I'll have to think of more. I'm a chronic Netflix TV binge watcher.

@Mrs. Lovejoy: I'm watching that too! I like it but Tom Selleck makes it a little cheesy...lol. His dad on the show is only 5 or 6 years older than him in real life!

Blacklist was a total favorite of me and my DH's. So good. If you are looking for more of the Gilmore girl feel.... Pretty Little Liars is a total guilty pleasure of mine. So easy to get hooked.

Just started watching Call the Midwife yesterday, and so far really like it! If you like British period shows like Downtown Abbey

We binge watched The West Wing recently. Love that show. We just started The Blacklist and it's so good! Only one season on Netflix though and then you're caught up to the current season.

Orange is the New Black is fun, and if you're looking for something more wholesome, Call the Midwife. House of Cards is also amazing.

I started Parenthood after finishing up Gilmore Girls and I enjoyed it ok, but it was a real disconnect watching that actress as Not Lorelai. The west wing would be a good followup though, it has that rapid dialogue like GG!

@autumnlove: Hahaha, I watch Blue Bloods because of Tom Selleck! I love him
@mediagirl: I just started watching Raising Hope. Short episodes, funny and I'm liking it so far.

@Tanjowen: raising hope is the best! I didn't realize it was on Netflix, I'd love to rewatch.

I binged on Orange is the New Black when it came out (both seasons). The Blacklist is awesome - I love it so much. My husband and I watch that one together. We've seen all of Sons and all of Breaking Bad.
Oh! Peaky Blinders looks excellent! That will have to be one I watch with my husband, too, though. He likes shows like that. I guess I should have been specific - what chick drama should I watch next? Ha.
Blue Bloods is a good idea, I may also try West Wing and @Dandelion: I think Switched at Birth is coming on next. That looks like just the type of show I'm looking for.

Parenthood
West Wing
Friday Night Lights
Blacklist
Call the Midwife (period drama)
Alias
With the exception of Call the Midwife all were husband approved too! Currently watching Blacklist and we are hooked but Friday Night Lights is in my top 5 all time favorite series along with Parenthood.
@mediagirl: what kinds of shows do you like?
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Some other "girlie" shows:
Friday Night Lights
Pretty Little Liars (so my guilty pleasure)
Desperate Housewives
Parenthood (although I would probably do a show in-between, it's hard to go from Lorelei to her as Sara)
Nashville

@LuLu Mom: ooo Nashville! I haven't watched that show yet but wanted to! Pretty Little Liars may go on the list, too. I like a show I can do other things while watching - like laundry and cleaning the bedroom, etc.
@littlebittyhouse: I like fun dramas, I stay away from comedies. I like hour long shows with story lines that are carried out week after week. These have been some of my fave shows recently - OITNB, Boardwalk Empire, The Blacklist, Sons of Anarchy, Homeland, Hell's Kitchen and Master Chef, Survivor, NCIS, The Amazing Race, Game of Thrones.

@mediagirl: I get "really" into PLL and have to focus on it, but Nashville would be a good background show. Mad Men is another good background show.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@LuLu Mom: sigh. Nashville is only available on dvd right now.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@mediagirl: oh bummer, I didn't even think of that! I thought for sure it would be streaming.

@mediagirl: i think you might really like friday night lights! i am so not a football fan but loved the show so much!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@littlebittyhouse: oh yeah, forgot to mention, I've watched the entire series.

I just started watching "The Carrie Diaries". It is the Sex and the City prequel. It is cheesy and a CW teen drama but it is set in the 80s and it is really enjoyable to watch!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
Pretty Little Liars is the bomb, but there is no doing anything else while watching!! It's one of those shows that you have to have your eyes glued to the screen every second.
Once Upon a Time is my addiction right now.
grapefruit / 4903 posts
I love West Wing and Call the Midwife! I'd add White Collar, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec and Revenge to those mentioned above.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@Dandelion: We totally binge watched Switched At Birth! Liked it more than we expected to.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@bpcmarj: I loved the Carrie Diaries! I've never even seen much of SATC! I'm hoping it comes out on netflix, soon!

You may like some of the other cw/wb shows. Veronica mars is on amazon prime, one tree hill, angel, Buffy.

Netflix seems to suck--we just searched through it this eve! We just decided to watch Cast Away on xfinity on demand. Good luck! I cannot find any movies on Netflix!
pomegranate / 3716 posts
@smtfaith: I recently subscribed to Netflix and agree, I don't think the selection is great! I also had a hard time finding something to watch...
grapefruit / 4554 posts
@smtfaith: @Meridian: Agreed that the movie selection is horrible. I only use Netflix streaming for tv shows and pay extra for the dvds.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@Dandelion: @spaniellove: gah! The rich daughter in switched at birth is Luke's daughter from Gilmore Girls!!
pomelo / 5509 posts
@Shutterbug: Thanks for suggesting Peaky Blinders! DH and I started watching it a few days ago and now we only have 4 episodes left! When he found out I heard about it on HB he was like "Ehhhh I don't know..." but we're both hooked now.
@MrsTiz: Dexter was the last one we binge-watched, I was so sad when it was over. I watched the first season of American Horror Story and loved it, but couldn't get into the second season. Maybe I should give it another chance...
