i think my son was in newborn size for a month, then size 1 for a month. I think one big box of NB to start out with is good and then stock up on some size 1's. It all depends on your baby's weight and how fast they gain.

i second 3s and maybe 4s.

I wouldn't really stock up bc you may find that your LO doesn't get a very good fit in a certain brand (or that brand gives him a rash, etc). You may also find that your LO stays in one size for a while but then has a growth spurt and doesn't stay very long in the next size.

I think as they get older (size 3,4,5) the brand doesn't really matter as much. And those are the more expensive diapers.

I would get like 2 boxes of each size (1, 2, 3) and then after that maybe 3 boxes of 4, 5?

We've been in size three for almost a year, so that would be my vote!

I wouldn't stock up on larger sizes for the reason @winniebee mentioned. We started out with Pampers swaddlers, but he's now in the Target brand, which fits him the best out of the 10+ types of diapers we've tried. But size 1's are a good bet. It's seems most babies stay in 1's for a while.

DD has been in 2's for ever, but every baby is different. I would keep receipts so (tape them to the box!) so that you can return any you don't want/need.

Liv is 19 months old and JUST moving to size 4s. She was in 3s for months...at least 7.

I'd say 1 and 2's. I wouldn't spend much on the newborn size because you just don't know how big the baby will be.
I'm being told that right now at 33 weeks she's measuring 6lbs...if that holds true I wouldn't be able to use newborn size at all. So, I always start with size 1.

@winniebee: great point about the brands! I had bought all Pampers Swaddlers and now suddenly DS is starting to wet through at night (he's 7 months). Friends tell me that Huggies are sometimes better for boys, but I have a closet full of Pampers!

@bookworm: re: returning the diapers, they *should* exchange them without a problem, but I did have an issue at Target once. The computer wouldnt recognize the bar code (I'd bought them on clearance so there was actually a price tag). Anyhoos, my MIL brought them back for me on a different day and talked them into exchanging them

My nieces were in size 2's til well over a year, and my little dude was barely in 2's....you just never know!

@winniebee: I just started using the Pampers Baby Dry/12 Hr - they were literally the only kind of overnight/extra protection the day I went to buy them on my lunch hour. Are the Pampers Extra Protection the same? They're worked well so far, but now I've found I need them during the day too sometimes. Does that happen to you? Or maybe I should just go up a size?

@buffalove: My son peed right through the Baby Dry once he started taking bigger bottles at night so we switched to Extra Protection a few months ago and no leaks! We switched to 3's when he was 15 lbs ish.

I wouldn't stock up too much on size 1 or 2s. They're not in them for very long. Size 3s though - they are in those for longer. Also, I did a quick calculation on how many days the box would last us. My LO wears 6 diapers a day + 1 overnight diaper so those jumbo packs (150ish diapers) would last us basically all month. Because of that, I didn't really stock up on that many boxes.
