What size did you bring with you to the hospital/birthing center?
We packed NB and 0-3 months just in case. Ended up using the newborn outfit.

We did the same. One NB outfit and one 0-3 outfit, but we used the NB outfit.

Preemie and newborn. We used the preemie size but he was actually a bit big for it!

Newborn, although I had a bunch of 0-3 at home that my mom could have grabbed in case they came out huge. They ended up smaller than we were expecting, though. They were drowning in newborn. My parents went out and bought a few preemie things for my son because he was under 5 lbs. He was long, though, so he fit awkwardly into preemie.

NB and 0-3 for both of them. Even both my kids were bigger than 8 lbs at birth the 0-3 would have been pretty big.
With my first we were TG too so I had like 4 outfits with me.

We did both for K...she was born at 7lbs2oz and was 6lbs8oz by the time we went to the ped (4 days old). So she wore NB home and kinda swam in it.
This time I only have NB - but I have two outfits one with feet and one without...

Only newborn both times. Lo1 was 8lbs 9oz and they were still a little big. Ds2 is swimming in them at 7lbs 5oz!

NB and it was huge. She ended up way smaller than anticipated. I'm having a preemie, NB and 0-3 outfit ready this time. My parents can bring it when they bring LO1 to visit.

NB. E was almost 9lbs and was able to wear NB home, so I figured we were probably safe. G was swimming in them for a week or two and was still wearing NB at 6wks.

DS1 - I packed almost all NB stuff and had to have my mom bring me bigger stuff. The hospital had to even scrounge up size 1 diapers, because he was too big for nb.
DS2 - I was prepared to have another giant baby....and he wasn't. I brought mostly 0-3, and a little bit of nb stuff. DH brought more nb stuff from home.
I was in the hospital 5 days (4 nights) with both, so we needed a lot of clothes for all the changes.

1st baby we did newborn and 0-3, 2nd baby I just did newborn because I knew that it would work for almost any baby I had.

For my first I only packed 0-3 months. She was too big for the nb diapers they had so I was glad we brought big girl clothes.
For my second I brought both and even though the NB outfit was a little short I used that one. It was outgrown a week later.
My third I brought both and she squeezed into the 0-3 month. She's my baby elephant. Six weeks now and all the 3-6 month stuff is packed away.

Newborn. I have tiny kids (5 lbs 13 oz and 6 lbs). They wore newborn clothes for a month or so.

Newborn and 0-3. My doctor thought she was going to be in the upper 7-8 pounds. She was 6lb 11oz and swimming in her newborn clothes!

First time we brought newborn and 0-3 - he was 7lb11oz and fit newborn for the first few weeks, so this time I'm just packing newborn stuff.

I thought DS was going to be big, so I packed 0-3 months, but since he came at 35 weeks, he was 6lbs 10oz, so NB would have been better.
I learned my lesson, so for DD I packed NB

I brought newborn, and it was still a bit loose on my 8 lb baby. I'll definitely do the same next time.

NB the first two times. It was great with the first, but the second time, I couldn't even get my new baby's going home outfit to snap around her neck. So the third time I brought size 0-3 months, but I ended up having a peanut and it was huge. Can ever win!

First time we just brought newborn, which was good because even that was swimming on her. The second time I brought newborn and 0-3, but only used the newborn.

Premie and newborn. She was 6lbs 14 oz and the premie outfit was huge!

Newborn, my girls were 7lb15oz and 9lb4oz but still wore newborn for at least a couple of weeks

Just newborn. Had no reason to suspect she'd be too big for newborn sizing.

We brought NB outfits. When we left the hospital, LO was just 6 lbs, so the NB outfits were huge, and we actually needed preemie clothes for a month or two.

Newborn, both times. DS wore NB size home from the hospital (and for 2 months after). I suspected DD would be the same. And she was. NB was just the right size for both of them-- not too big, not too small.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
I didn't have any NB outfits because every mom I knew told me not to bother and because they estimated DS would be around 7.5-8lbs. I brought two 0-3 month outfits with me and of course he ended up being just shy of 7lb at birth and even smaller after a stint in NICU. He came home swimming in his sleeper and I had to rush out and get 3 NB sleepers that he ended up living in for SIX WEEKS!
This time I bought 3 more NB sleepers for DS2 and one NB sized going home outfit. I'll pack both NB and 0-3 this time. Of course, knowing my luck, this one will be bigger and need the 0-3 month clothes!

I brought a newborn and 0-3. Next time I will probably just bring newborn.

Just newborn since we knew even that would be a bit big for him given our growth scans.

@regberadaisy: a million things! a 3 piece outfit, size 0-3, a sleeper size 0-3, some handmade stuff in unknown "size" that looked tiny but were too big.
We only had maybe 4 nb outfits and all were gifted when he was a week old... and fit for a day or two.
This time I bought a NB sleeper, and 2 0-3 sleepers (because I gave away DS's only tiny sleepers. Oops.)

0-3 for our first. It was comically huge on her. NB for my second. They were 7lbs 10 and 7pbs 12 for reference.
