I think gap runs a "bit" small and dresses are easy to be work a bit on the large size especially because at 2.5 months they aren't crawling. I would for sure say the 3-6 months size, but if you want them to last a while, I would order the 6-9 month size.

See, I think their stuff runs just right lol. Heres the thing-what are the dresses like? If they are fall dresses, order 3-6 so they can wear it now. If its more winter to spring, go 6-9 because realistically they wont be able to wear it until dec/jan- spring.

@cvbee: if its a stnadard cotton long sleeve dress something like this http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=84665&vid=1&pid=915116002 or like a long, long sleeve t-shirt, I would go 6-9. Parents tend to have a lot of clothes for whatever the baby's current size is, but not as much for upcoming sizes, so that could be useful

If you get dresses that are a stretchy fabric with short sleeves, they can sometimes last a while longer because they could transition to more of tunic or top, worn with leggings, when the baby gets bigger.

6-9, they probably already have a lot of 3-6 stuff.
