Around 70. I get so cold and I keep a little heater in DS's room.

68. I would keep it lower at night except LO hates blankets and her room is the coldest.

We have a boiler with cast iron baseboard heating. Our monthly winter bill is about $130.

@Mrs. Pink: have you looked into putting those plastic shrink wraps over your window? At our old house we did that and it made a huge difference with the old wood Windows.

Also thermal curtains, closing off the vents and doors to rooms not normally used.

We keep it at 63, it's just us right now and we are being cheapos this winter.

We have oil heat and a powerful furnace, so we keep it at 62 when we're home and in the main parts of the house. At night it goes down to 55, and during the day its at 58 unless I turn it up. I keep a space heater in my office too. We used to go through one tank of oil per season, but once we got new windows its been about half that. For reference, when it gets to 65 or 66 (with the heat on), I'm sweating!

@Mrs. Pink: Our tank is 300gal. Most oil companies give you lower prices if you get at least 200 at a time. When we bought the house, the realtor told the furnace guy to set it at 68 and we were out of oil within weeks (in the dead of winter). We all do it! So what I wrote above is what the furnace guy suggested. I don't even notice how cold it gets at night, and we use a huge down comforter. Not sure how that would work with baby though. New windows made a huge difference too, but I know they're pricey.

BTW, have they shown you how to check your tank? We got a huge folding yardstick that DH dips down there to check the level. I was told to get it filled up when it gets to 8". Also, ask your furnace company who has the best prices on oil. Usually a company that services the furnace has higher prices. We use some random guy that has a small fleet of trucks.

22c/72f. We have an older home. We also have a space heater in LO's room that's set to 20/68. Our bill is about $100/month during the winter.

@Mrs. Champagne: What does the equal billing mean? Who do you guys use?

@Freckles: equal billing means they take your usage history and divide it over the course of a year to give you a flat monthly fee. If you use less they will reimburse you. Some prefer to have a set bill each month. Versus higher in the winter but much lower in the summer. Almost any utility company will do that for you.

We keep ours at 67 when we are home, and 65 when we are out, and at night when we're sleeping. Although with the temperatures right now where they're at (around -5 ) the house is already pretty cold, so we will probably turn it up a little too

@Mrs. Pink: 62 at night and when we aren't there and 66 otherwise. We live in Michigan and that keeps our house pretty toasty. We do have a humidifier that makes it feel warmer I think.

We keep ours at 68. Our house is 2200 sq ft and our most recent bill was for $108 (gas heat).

@Mrs. Pink: our bills were about $180 when we first bought our home. The windows were original to our 30 year old home, and we lost a lot of heat. I always kept the thermostat on 72.

We replaced all the windows and doors, and our bill is closer to $90/mo. I still keep the hear on 72 but sometimes I'm freezing and turn it up to 74. Our bill was $105 this month..

@Freckles: The company is Union Gas. When we first got it they said they would do equal billing for the year based on an average price. So the first year we did $100 per month then had a big credit at the end of the year and had a few months with no payment. They then adjusted the equal payment down to $65 per month.
