Today's extra extra got me to thinking about how sleep deprived i was in high school. I've always been a night owl, and it didn't help that my high school started at 7:25! The bell rang at 7:19, so I had to wake up by 6:30 every morning and run out the door (every minute of sleep was valuable).
What time did your high school start?

It depends what classes you took. Our high school was like college so you could sign up for early classes if you wanted to. Earliest start was 7:30 but if you had no class then you didn't have to show up until 9:30 when we had homeroom!

Wow, 7:25 is ridiculously early, why would they do that to kids?! I think ours started at 8AM, which I think is reasonable.

Mine was 7:23, I think! Some mornings I would drive myself there but not even remember the trip, I was such a zombie.

our first bell rang 7:20, if I remember correctly. homeroom started at 7:30? we were out by 1:49 though! (weird that I remember the exact time of final bell, but can't remember the time we started...you can tell what I paid attention to!!).

I think HS started about 7:15-7:20, but that was home room. My senior year, I started missing home room and going to first period. And sometimes missing first period and going to second. For some reason, I thought it was good idea to have pre-calc during first period and during my senior year.

Too early!! But it didn't matter b/c I had to wake up at 4 or 5 to deliver my paper route.

Regular classes started at 8:00 but there were a few classes you could take as a 0 hour which started at 7. My jr and sr years I was there every morning for 0 hour but then I had an hour off during the day which I usually tried to plan as 3rd hour so I had a really, really long lunch (we had 90 minute classes and 3rd was always longer to accommodate lunches) or 5th hour which was the last hour of the day so I would get done at 2:03 and go home and take a nap. I loved getting up and getting classes over with so I could have my afternoons freed up a little and work more hours and make more money since I worked in banking which closed at 6. Plus, I could get my homework done before the evening which freed that up for friends.

I think ours started at, like, 7:19 or something. And we got out at 2:23. Why do they pick such random times?

8:15 was the first bell for us! Last bell was at 3:24! haha sad that 10 years later I still remember that.

I think I started school after 8am in elementary school.

7:30...I was really sleep deprived. But I also worked before school started at 16 and had to be up by 3:30 for awhile. I started at 6 one year in middle school and got out at noon because we had to share our building with another school (they started at 12 and got out at 6).

@HabesBabe: Probably. Our school already went 184 days per year, over the required 180, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to squeeze extra time into our days, too. I wonder if the 42-minute classes and 4-minute break between periods had something to do with the off start and end times, too?

I just checked my high school's website, and it looks like they bumped it back a bit - start at 7:38, end at 2:33.

Homeroom at 8am. 2pm dismissal on M,W, Th 1:15 on Tues and 1:30 on Fri., private/catholic school- can't remember what the reasons were for the early dismissals every week.

First bell rang at 7:25 and my senior year I was student body secretary so I had to read the morning announcements before that and had to be there even earlier =( I was constantly getting grief from my principal for running in at the last possible second and rushing through the announcements and pledge of allegiance, haha!
Our elementary schools started much later - like 8:30 or maybe even 9 - and to me that has never made sense because little kids wake up so much earlier than teenagers naturally, it seems like it should be the opposite!

I was majorly sleep deprived in high school. I had zero period for all 4 years of HS, so I started @ 7am every damn day. I dont' know how I did it b/c I am a total night owl too.
