2 year old. Shut the door between 9-9:30. Its so hard getting her to bed sooner with summer since it stays light so late and the evenings are the nicest time of day to be outside for us. Plus I love that we can sleep in until 8:30. Once the new baby is here and I won't be sleeping in anymore and it starts getting dark early again I will move things around.

Oh god. I envy all of you and all of your sleep and adult time. My 27mo LO doesn't go to sleep until sometime between 10 and 10:30 most nights and he gets up between 5:45 and 6:30.
He also gets up 2x overnight.
It has been this way for over a year (which is actually an improvement over how it was before he dropped to 1 nap).
We (the grownups) are so tired, but he is not. I need about an hour more overnight sleep than he seems to need...and I don't get to take a nap at work.

3y4m, goes to bed by 7:30 most nights (sometimes pushing 8 if we've had a late dinner + shower), we wake him at 6:30am on weekdays, weekends he's usually up by 7:30am. Its been great since dropped his nap, he's been catching up on sleep on the weekends!

Not that my kid (1) would go for an earlier bedtime, but, how do y'all do 7p and 7:30p bedtimes? We're not home from work and daycare pickup until 6:35p most nights -- and then we need to make and eat dinner and do bedtime routine.
(1) Who is still awake, trying to get my partner to play, "Let's be dinosaur cats! Roaameow!" despite the fact that they've been in a completely dark bedroom for an hour and a half and counting now...

DS is 2 and door is shut between 8-8:15. Wakes up at 6:15am weekdays and 8am weekends.

@lilyofthewest: not that we do, since our bedtime is later, but I am home by 4:30ish and DH is home by 5:15. (We have short commmutes!) So we are usually done eating by around 6. We play after dinner then start baths etc. at 7.

DS is almost 4 and bedtime is 7:30 (8 in the summer) and he gets up at 6:45 (school year) and 7/8 during the summer/weekends.

Usually 7-7:30 but 8-8:30 during the summer.

ODS just turned 4 -- he goes to bed anywhere between 7/730 and wakes up around 7/730.
YDS is 21 months and typically goes to bed around the same time. He usually goes to bed at 7:30, wakes at 7:00 and then takes one nap a day anywhere from 1-2 hours.

In summer our schedules are thrown out the window, they're not in daycare and I'm off work.
But generally my 22 month old sleeps 7-7 (naps 1-3), and my 4 year old sleeps 7:30-7:30.

@bluestriped bee: we do around 6:30 sometimes a little earlier sometimes later
LO is 3.5, but we are very early risers
She is always up around 6am on weekends
Sometimes we get lucky and she sleeps until 7:15 on weekends

7M - 6:30/6:45 - usually up at 6/6:30
4 - I try and leave her room by 7:15, then 7:30-8:00 before she is asleep. Up 6:30-7:00

DS 5 mos old, goes down between 6-7 pm, wakes between 5-6 am (with 2-3 wake ups)
DD 3.5 yo, out the door 845, wakes naturally between 6-7 am. I would like to bump her bedtime up but its so hard during summer when it's still light out. We start bedtime at 8-815 pm but it drags out to 845 or later most nights. We'll be starting preschool in Sept and need to be out the door at 615 am so I'm hoping bedtime naturally pushes forward so that I dont' have to "wake" her too soon from her natural wake time

5yo we aim for 7:30 and she has to stay in her room until 7 though I think she sometimes wakes a bit earlier. We use an eye mask to fight the brightness in summer for her. I'm going to try for 7pm once kinder starts since I have to wake her up at 6:30 then and I think the whole thing will tire her out.
2yo currently around 7-7:30pm, when he was younger it was earlier as that's just his natural way. Right now he sleeps until 6:30 if I'm lucky, and also takes about an hour to 1.5hr nap.
We were able to get early bedtimes when my older dropped her nap and I loooooove it.

My DD2 is 4 and her bedtime is 8:00 pm, We start bath, story, etc. around 7:15. Unless she's had a rough day and then it's closer to 7:30 when she's actually sleeping. She gets up between 5:30-6:00 every day on her own. At daycare they nap in the afternoon.

LO1 is 6 and LO2 is 3.5 years old. They share a room together, and they go down at 8. Both wake up around 6/6:30.

DD is 20 months. Lights out is anywhere between 8:15 and 10:00, and she sleeps 11-13 hours, waking up between 8 and 9:30 usually.

DS is 3 in about a month. For a long time it was 7 on the nose. Like honestly his whole life and if it wasn't it was earlier (like a bad nap day).
In the last month his nap has been getting later so bedtime is now at 8pm most nights. On one hand, its been nice to have freedom especially in the summer/on vacation. But on the other, when its just me on a weeknight and I'm 8 weeks pregnant and feel awful/tired, I miss 7pm bedtime.
ETA: not sure exactly when he wakes up, sometime around 7/7:30, probably some days a little earlier. but we won't get him before 7am. He'll usually stay happily in his crib till 7:30.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
15 months old. We put him in his crib about 8 pm and he's asleep in a couple of minutes. If he's not up on his own by 5:30 am, I wake him up.

3 years, I voted 8:30 bedtime but it can be anywhere from 8:15-9:30, with 8:30-9 being pretty typical. He wakes up at 7am.

@mrsbubbletea: Are you me? We keep trying to move bedtime earlier too and I'd love DS to wake at 7:30 so we have more time to get ready in the morning. He's also a little over 2.5 haha!

@codeitall: ugh can you make a good transition plan and let me know it, I'll try too and we can compare notes!

@bluestriped bee: before my kiddo started doing a lot of classes and whatnot, she went to bed at like 930. My husband works late pretty often so he could come home at 9 and see her before she went to bed. She slept enough so it didn't matter.
Now that we have places to be at 9 am, her bedtime is 830 (she is almost 4). She wakes up at 630/645 and naps in the afternoon still. 8 month old baby goes to bed between 7-730 and wakes up for the day at 5 . I wish the baby would go to bed later but she won't so at least we are on time to stuff in the morning.

@lilyofthewest: To do a 7:30 bedtime, I leave the office at 4. If I had to leave at 5, commute and then have dinner, bedtime for sure would be later, probably 8:30. To leave at 4, I do early mornings, I try to be at my desk by 7:30.

@looch: Ah, yeah, that makes sense. Neither of us have that kind of control over our schedules/report times. I work 9:30a - 5:30p; my partner works 9a - 6:30p.

My kids go to bed around 7:45 (18 months) and at 8:15 (almost 4). They wake up around 7 am. I can't do a bedtime earlier than about 7:45 without adjusting my work hours. I usually get home at 6:30 and we have dinner pretty much right away (DH has it prepared). Then we might have a little downtime before we start the bedtime routine, usually at 7:25. My hours are flexible, but I have a high need for sleep.
grape / 92 posts
14 months. Usually asleep by 8 a.m., wakes up about 6 a.m. or a little before. He's always been an early riser and doesn't seem to need as much sleep as other children.
pomelo / 5524 posts
@lilyofthewest: This is our struggle too! DH gets the boys from day care around 5:45, but if I work in the city that day, I don't get home until 6:30. There's no way we could do dinner, bath, and bed by 7/7:30.
Because of the above, our almost 5 year old and almost 2 year old go to bed around 8:30/9. The almost 2 year old has an easier routine once bath is done. He gets a few books, lights out and sung to, and we put him in his crib and leave.
The almost 5 year old stalls us, so he's usually not in bed until 9. Both fall asleep pretty quickly, and they wake up between 7-8 depending on if I work from home that day or not.

DS is 20 months. We walk out basically at 7:30 and he usually falls right asleep. He wakes up at 6 am and cries for us to get him.

I have an almost 5 year old, 3 year old, and 10 month old. I nurse the baby still and he falls asleep quickly but I usually snuggle with him until his noisy brothers are in bed, around 8. My oldest usually goes right to sleep. Middle lo can have a tough time falling asleep if his nap goes late so usually 8:30-9:00. He wakes up around 6-6:30, oldest is up 7-7:30, baby anytime from 6-8.

@lilyofthewest: We do a 7 pm bedtime for our 9 month old and 7:30 pm bedtime for our 5 year old. I have to leave work around 5:15 and am home a few minutes before 6 (kids are home with a nanny so no pickup which helps a lot). Our dinners are either slow cooker meals or super quick to prep ones. We bathe only 2-3 times per week (one of those being on the weekend). Bedtime is 2 books and is fairly quick. It's a race against the clock every night but DH and I are a good team working in tandem. I need that early bedtime to log back on to do more work.

DS1 is 2.5 and DS2 is 10.5 months. Bedtime starts with bath at 6:45 and never ends. Kidding (sorta). DS2 is asleep just after 7 and DS1 is done with 30 minutes of wheels on the bus and hopefully out by 8:15. They both wake up 5:45-6ish.... Bedtime has gotten later in the summer, it's just so light out. I am sure it will get earlier again with the fall.
