And did you think it was long enough? Too long? Too short?
Thanks!

3-6. It was perfect but we should have done cake at 4 instead of 5. She was up really late after having her first ever taste of frosting and cake.

1-3 not too early, not too late (we had a lot of out of town - 2 hrs away - friends and didn't want them traveling with kids too late at night)

2-5. She and most of her little friends were napping 11:30-1:30ish back then so it made sense.

We are starting at 3 and there's no end time...whenever everyone feels like leaving is the end time!

We're starting at 11am to avoid the heat of the afternoon, and because G wakes up from her nap around then! So far, no complaints on the time from RSVPs!

We were thinking about starting at 11, after first nap. 3 might be a good time too...I know her nap schedule will probably change.

We said 11am to noon (we thought the babies wouldn't be able to cope with a long party and we didn't want the hassle of serving lunch) but people actually stayed until about 1.30pm ish. So two-and-a-half hours, which was plenty long enough. Two hours is the ideal time I think.

@MamaMoose: Did 3 hours seem too long? I'm debating between 2 and 3...I worry that M will start melting down if we do 3 hours. But I think we're going to do a 2:00 start time, too.
@Bookish: Oh wow! M usually doesn't go down for her nap til 10 or 10:30.

@Foodnerd81: That seems so early! I guess 2-year olds are on one nap and probably nap around 12 or 1 so makes sense.

I put 2-4 on the invitations. but my family stayed till 530-600 but I didn't even notice the time till they left. R had a blast playing with her cousins.

4:30 - 7:30. I would have preferred a bit earlier, but scheduling stuff with DH's family is a pain n the ass since they have a family business that DH, FIL, and BIL all work for, so you basically have to do it on a Sunday after the store closes. Annoying.
Ideally, I think starting it at the time their first nap ends would be perfect.

3-6. He was on 2 naps then and went to bed at 730. It wasps fly family and was perfect.

We just put a start time (11:30) she got up from her nap at 11, did her party thing and went down for her second nap at 2. Her party was at my parents' house so she was able to nap upstairs while we socialized. Our close family stayed for a while after she went down, which was nice.

3:30-5, it was too short!
We had it at a kids' play place and they only booked 1.5 hour parties, so I guess we could've booked two blocks but 3 hours seemed like it'd be too long.

Ours started at 2 with no end time. A first birthday is mostly an adults party in my experience (and was in our case too), so people with kids/babies stayed an hour or two and most of the other adults stayed longer.
We're doing the same for LO's second birthday next weekend.

Saturday from 1-4 - it was a good amount of time. A lot of people were late though!
For his second birthday we had a start time of 4pm since that is about half hour after he gets up from his nap - and it lasted til his bedtime at 8!

We threw it from 1-4pm. It was a great range because a few came late due to piano recitals and they still had time to eat and mingle.

@yerpie110: Also 12-3pm and it was perfect. DH attended to the last guests, who left by 4pm, while put LO down for his second nap.

2 naps, rented a room at our community center. Hour to set up, so we did it from 4-6:30 with 30 minutes to clean up. People were there a little before 4 (out of towners) and people stayed until 645 and we cleaned as we went. It was a great time frame for us!

It was family only so there wasn't an end time - It started at 3pm - right after the nap!

12-4pm I think? DS had to take a nap in the middle which was a pain but most people were still there when he woke up and watched him open presents. We had a big outdoor summer BBQ so the focus wasn't entirely on DS anyway.

12-4.
DS took his PM nap in between as well. It was the perfect length for us.

We're thinking probably around 3 or 4? In laws don't close up their shop until 1 and live 1.5 hours away. Gotta give em time to shower up and drive into town.

4:30-7. It was perfect, social time, eat dinner, presents/cakes and then it was time for bath and bed!

Whoops, LO 2's party started at 12 and officially ended at 2:30 but some friends stayed til 5. I think the time was perfect for us....the birthday girl went down for a nap at 2:30 and slept til 5:30.

DS party was at 2 I believe. I don't set an end time, people just leave when they want. This year we are having A's first birthday start at 3, works better for naps

2pm. She was mostly on 1 nap, but sometimes still had 2, so I wanted it to be after her nap. It ended up going from like 2 to 9pm!
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
2-4 . . . I think people stayed until around 5ish? I was trying to miss most nap windows and makes sure we were still able to hit LO's 6ish bedtime. It worked well.

1-3pm and it was perfect, between naps and no one lingered too long.
pomegranate / 3411 posts
i thought 3-6pm was perfect. morning naps were so unpredictable in length back then so I was afraid of him waking up early from morning and then being cranky all mid-afternoon and needing an early afternoon - which would have sucked if the party was between the two naps. His longest stretch of awake time was post-afternoon nap until bedtime, so it was the best time for the party. Daylight savings happened like the week before his party though and that threw us off a bit! I ended up changing the time to 2:30-530!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
12-2 pm... right in between his two naps!
His first nap was 9:30-11 am... 2nd nap 2:30-4 pm.
