DH's best friend is getting married this April (the day before our first anniversary, *eyeroll*) So we will be about 30 minutes away from Richmond, VA for our anniversary. What is there to do?

Not sure about Richmond proper, but a little farther out: Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown. Busch Gardens if you're into that. Outlet malls!

I'm about an hour and twenty minutes out of Richmond, so I know of all kinds of things to do in the area. What sort of things are y'all into?

Charlottesville is not too far from Richmond. There are tons of wineries, cute shops, great restaurants and wonderful places to stay.

@MrsTiz: I haven't been there in a few years (I am actually going there for a wedding in a few weeks), so I'd need to check on specific restaurants...I'll get back to you on that. As far as places to stay...not sure how much you want to spend, but The Boars Head Inn and Keswick Hall are both supposed to be really nice...pricey, but worth it from what I hear.

@MrsTiz: Charlottesville is awesome! I went to school there.
There is a ton of history stuff if you're into it. Montpelier, Monticello, UVa.
Tons of wine tasting.
Great restaurants. I can recommend a bunch if you want.

Only thing I can suggest in VA is the only thing I've ever done in VA - see the natural bridge. It's rather stunning. Not sure how close it is to Richmond though, I'd Google it and maybe stop on your way there/back.

@oliviaoblivia: we have lots of friends that went to UVA, so lil' CB has some wahoo gear...yesterday he was wearing some UVA socks and told me they were his "E-V-A" socks.
we'd love it if he went there! you know, in like, 14 years!

@oliviaoblivia: Well we will probably go out to dinner, so a nice restaurant? And we like theme parks, nature parks, adventure type stuff..not so much museums. I do like historical homes which I heard there are plenty of. Something romantic and something fun!

@MrsTiz: A good friend owns a Southern/Classic Virginia restaurant downtown called The Whiskey Jar that is doing really well and has fabulous reviews. Back in the day we'd go to C&O Cafe for fancy date nights. There are tons of great restaurants on the downtown mall, you pretty much can't go wrong and the atmosphere is great.
There aren't theme parks in C-Ville, but Busch Gardens in in Williamsburg (about 3 hours away).
Tons of historic homes. But a lot of them do get museum-y.
The Blue Ridge Mountains and Skyline drive are about 30-45 minutes away and offer either great hiking or driving.I'm jealous of your trip. I want to go!

Oh I am so jealous! I went to school there, too, and my family still lives there. I'm homesick!
My sister and her husband love to go to The Local these days. We love L'etoile on W. Main St. They catered our wedding. Nearly anything on the Downtown Mall is likely to be a hit.
Humpback Rock was always a favorite (easy) hike.
