I'm considering a birthday brunch at our house for DD 1st bday. What food could I have that would require little to no prep the day of? It would be like a 10 am brunch.
Thanks!

I would make a breakfast casserole the night before with eggs, potatoes, meat, and cheese. You could do one with bacon and one with sausage or ham. Then bake it the morning of! Serve with a fruit platter, and pastries like muffins/bagels. Mimosas for adults and juice boxes for the kids!

Something like this. You could easily change the meat and add veggies!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: yay! That is so helpful. I'm trying to get better at hosting stuff at my house and not getting all stressed about hosting and just having fun!
Mimosa and Bloody Mary Bar might be a possibility too.,

@matador84: totally! That sounds awesome. You can get a fruit tray or fruit salad already made if you want to, and costco has great pastries you can just set out in the morning! Most breakfast casseroles you can make the night before. Brunch sounds awesome!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: blah, no costco here! We do have SAMs. Looking on Pinterest...donuts...bagels...casseroles,...fruit, brunch would be so easy!

This strata is awesome. Prep it the night before and then just throw it in the oven in the morning!

French toast casserole, egg muffins in croissant dough cups (pillsbury recipe), fresh fruit and breakfast pastries from the grocery store?

Different quiches- buy or make the day before
Assorted muffins, pastries, donut holes
Bagels & cream cheese- slice for half moon portions
Sliced fruit
OJ for kids, Mimosas for adults
if you have a Keri you can set up a coffee bar station the night before
@10 am I'd go with more breakfast foods than lunch dishes

I love a good brunch. We did Christmas Day brunch at our house this year, we served:
Smithfield style country ham, from Costco: delicious, I will buy again
Buiscuits: I took the easy way out here and used premade ones
Custard Pear tart: I like something sweet
Vanilla bundt cake
Fruit salad
Mini bagels with lox and all the fixings
Egg strata
Assorted cheese tray
OJ, tomato juice, apricot juice, champange

We had a brunch bday for my older daughter's first. While I don't remember everything, I do know that we served:
-bagels and lox
-fruit salad
-a selection of quiches
-bacon
-veggie tray
-mimosas, coffee, tea, etc
-pumpkin cake
There were about 25 people there, and it seemed to go over ok!

We had a brunch for my daughter's birthday, and it was such a hit, we're doing it again for her bday this year, too!
- chicken strips (cut up)
- tator tots
- donut holes
- biscuits and gravy (gravy also worked well for the chicken strips)
- pigs in a blanket
- blueberry pancake muffins (easy batter mix just poured into mini muffin tins and then baked)
....and mimosas, of course
- fruit (already pre-cut)

@lamariniere: oh yeah! I hosted a brunch last year and made that. So good!
Coffee cake, mini quiche, and these scones are also a hit: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2009/10/jalapeo-cheddar-scones/

@lamariniere: I've also made this and it was delicious. I added pork sausage

Strata or an egg casserole
Muffins or banana bread
donut holes
fruit
ham and cheese sliders (I love these - http://www.jasonandshawnda.com/foodiebride/archives/10482)
I usually do a champagne and juice bar because I don't really like mimosas, but I do like bellinis.

@matador84: We did a waffle bar - I made all the waffles the night before and just reheated them in the oven and had a ton of different toppings + coffee, apple cider, and scrambled eggs. It worked out really nicely, and was very little prep the morning of.

@blackbird: sounds like we have the same brunch tastes: re your suggested menu. For my most recent brunch I made the strata AND cinnamon rolls. Yum! I need to host brunch again!

@lamariniere: i always make that plus her boozy baked french toast. So easy! I also use the Alton Brown cinnamon bun recipe she adapted for her morning buns (the ones with cranberries).
I love hosting brunch! I make anything that can be done beforehand:
- strata
- cinnamon buns
- baked french toast
- assortment of fruit
- mini yogurts
- sausages (i'll usually cook the morning of and then keep in the warming drawer)

@lamariniere: Well you recommended that strata to me, LOL. And i just love cinnamon rolls. Who doesn't? They're so fluffy and easy to make (or buy). And certainly something you don't get often!

I just did brunch for my sprinkle a few weeks ago: bagels (sliced in half by the bakery) with cream cheese, lox, onion, tomato, and capers, mini frozen quiche (took 10 mins to heat right before), donut holes, mini muffins, fruit, and I got some special things from one of my favorite bakeries - cheese rolls and potato balls (meat inside). It was cheap and easy and everyone seemed happy! We also put out some OJ, champagne, coffee, and water.
