DS has a birthday coming up and I'm looking for ideas! I looked at the old threads and blog posts but thought I'd start a new one since new items are always coming out.

My kid loves watercolors. He has a very fuzzy idea how they work, but he still has a good time.
He also loves the fancy art supplies he's not allowed yet, because I'm sick of fishing my favorite pencils out from under the couch.

Gonna follow this, I'm curious for ideas for my almost 2 year old as well. Mine is mostly into art right now - markers, crayons, coloring books, etc. Also starting to pretend play a bit. We got the Hape Toys Ice Cream set in a Citrus Lane box the other day and she loves it, so we'll be getting some more of similar pretend play toys. Hape makes some amazing ones.

Play doh is a huge favorite here. I also got some pipe cleaners and fuzz balls to mix it up...

@Seanettle: What kinds do you have? My kiddo loves stamps but everything I could find at Michaels/craft stores was boring.

@Mrs. Carrot: @andthewildones: Yes! The pretend play toys are some I'm specifically interested in and lookin for recommendations for. He has gotten so imaginative lately and I'd like things that feed off of that!

I got letters, and cars/trains...it was a set at the toystore. Grandma got sports stamps at Michaels that weren't as popular. I think it was more the act and the colors that were the draw not the actual stamp subject.

Anything with wheels or a ball (any kind).
Art supplies would be a pen or marker on paper.

All paint! Finger paint, water colors, chalk. Oh and this isn't totally art related but target has sticker work books and DD loves them.

Wooden cutting food is great, as are the Green Toys pizza and sandwich making sets.

If you don't have a wooden train set this is a great age to start! Also some simple puzzles, trucks and Magnatiles and/or Lego duplo for building.

Art-wise my 2 year old loves chalk, any kind of painting and play doh. The messier the better is his philosophy. He also likes stickers.
Toy-wise he's 100% obsessed with trains right now so most other toys don't stand a chance. However building blocks/Legos sometimes catch his attention as well as pretend play stuff (especially food/cooking toys).

Chalk, markers, play doh (we also got him an art easel for his 2nd birthday which he loves). As far as non-art toys, he LOVES trucks, cars, tractors, and airplanes. Another big hit has been a musical instrument set which he plays with almost every day.

E loves to paint. She adores painting sponges to stamp with, especially star shapes!

We got DS a train set for his second birthday, and it's one of his most played with toys. He also got a sand box with sand toys and he loves it.
