For me, it was packing up all the bottles today because we are officially done with them. I was totally caught off guard and started crying.

My youngest turning one! I had been dreading it since she turned 6 months, haha. But we are definitely done at two, so all the "lasts" with the baby phase really made me nostalgic. That said, I'll won't be as sad to see the willful toddler phase end.

I probably had other moments, but a month or so ago, ds1 (2.5) actually said "I'm a big boy. I'm not a baby anymore." I died a little bit.

At about 10/11 months, realizing I didn't need to shop the baby section of clothes anymore! Toddler clothes had always seemed huge!

Cleaning up after his first birthday party! I didn't expect it to hit me, but I was genuinely sad. And lately just seeing new things he does. Just trying to soak it all in and focus on all the fun stuff otherwise I get sad thinking about him growing up and leaving me!

I've had several of those moments -- first when she really started walking on her own, then when we stopped giving her bottles,, but it seems to happen most on the playground. When she went down the slide on her own (apparently she'd been doing it at daycare but I had no idea) I almost cried. Now she doesn't even need me at all on the "little kid" play structure, except to supervise, in fact she tells me no and points me off it when I try to play with her! Before, I could kind of pretend she was still a baby but now she's definitely a kid.

He's hit the speech explosion phase and that's made it clear he's not a baby!

Hush, you. They are still babies. <cloaked in denial>
I'm packing up the bottles this weekend too

With my daughter it was when I started giving her milk.
With my son it is now because he has started saying several new words the last 3 days

Packing up the bottles was definitely a big one, but recently he has learnt the word 'no' (accompanied by a vigorous head shaking) and is delighting in using it as often as possible - that really makes him feel like a fully qualified toddler!

Seeing her eating with a knife and fork was a big shock to me! Also, the first time I saw her run to her best friend and give her a hug.

@BandDmommy: Same
My oldest (2y9m) had a nightmare two nights ago and I went in and held her. She immediately fell asleep in my arms, limbs everywhere, and I had a flashback to holding her as a baby and started crying. Sad.

Maybe when he starts talking in full sentences? He's 18 months old and I call him "the baby" more than I call him by his name!

@Jess1483: mine said the same thing recently. I teared up.

Bringing LO2 home really killed any illusion that LO1 was a baby at all (27 months). She's a freaking giant that speaks in sentences and poops in the potty!

My son is 9m3w and is flat refusing to drink out of bottles. We've gone 3 days with straw cups and he's fitting into 12 month clothes just fine. Sigh.

Seeing her sit at the table and eat snacks at daycare like the bigger kids did it for me! (She is the youngest in a mixed age classroom)

There were a few things, but the clincher was when she learned the word "baby" and started using it to point out tiny infants whenever we'd see them.

The first birthday. The night before, I had a big ugly cry.

Apparently I am in huge denial, because I didn't start transitioning from "baby" to "little kid" until LO's 2nd birthday passed ! She's suddenly talking significantly more, and she's asserting her independence! (For the record, we still refer to her as "the baby" and will probably continue to do so until she goes to college!!!)
