I am a WFHM (work from home mom). Most of my friends also work. Not that I don't try and make plans with my SAHM friends but they are usually the ones to blow me off. Is it a clique thing?
I am interested to know if the different mom types tend to stick together. What type are you? What are your friends (mostly)?

I would be happy with ANY mom friends at this point!My best bet right now is a co-worker who lives about 15 minutes away.
I'm so creepy...when we go over to the new house to work whenever I see young kids (like 1-3) I stare and get all excited and tell my husband. Look young families!!! hahah. The other day as I was cleaning windows I saw a young couple walking by with a baby in a stroller. I got so excited! hahah -
All of my mom friends work. SIL is a SAHM though. She and I haven't been able to get together very often, but hoping to have lots of play dates this summer!

@regberadaisy: That is not creepy! Of course you would want to see some potential mommy friends and playmates for your future LO. That is exciting!

haha the first time I saw the kids they were outside playing with their parents. We were driving by and I stared and pointed all excitedly. hahah If I were the parents I might find that creepy that some strange lady in a car driving by was pointing at my kids. hahaha -

@Andrea: I actually don't see any friends. SIL lives about 30 mins away and it's tough getting our schedules to work out. Now that the kids are older, schedules are more in sync.

The friends I have who are already moms stick wih their own kind. My friend who recently became a sahm found making sahm mom friends SO difficult because they are very cliquey here.

@mediagirl: yeah! SAHMs have given me the worst excuses for not getting together so i think they just don't want anything to do with me. oh well.

@Andrea: Yep. Older is in school. We probably could have done lots of play dates, but I wanted to wait for the kids to actually play together. Plus, little cousin caught lots of bugs from her older sister, so wanted to steer clear of the sickies.

When I was a sahm the first time around I had mostly other sahms as friends, now that I work it's probably a 50/50 split.

I'm a SAHM with a mixture of different kids of moms. SAHM's, working moms, and part time working moms. I tend to blow people off, but it's just because I usually have a migraine. I would love to be able to hang out more, I love getting out of the house!

Interesting! Most of my friends are new moms (have LOs 1 year old or younger). Most work full time outside of the home, one is a WAHM mom and one is a SAHM. I plan to work 75% time out of the home, having a 4 day work week. But, I'll still work basically 35 hours a week, so really almost full time. Not the best deal but the best option for us!

I'm a SAHM, and most of my mom friends work. I wish I had more SAHM friends, though.

I am a SAHM and I have a mix of friends. I find we really all have the same struggles and issues, they're careful not to behave like their lives are so hard because they work and I am careful not to pretend like I have it made because I stay at home.

I am back at work part time. Most of my mum friends are SAHM. We have been friends forever so work/stay at home, doesn't really matter. We have superficially different issues but at their heart we are trying to do the best for our families.

Is 35 the bridge for still being FT? Are you working a 8hr 45min (roughly) day then? I'm curious because I'm planning on asking to work from home 1 day out of the week. But if I can go 35 and still get all my benefits I'd rather work longer days! -
I'm glad to see many of you have a mix! One of the things I'm nervous about potentially being a working mom is that SAHMs won't want to be my friend, and working moms will be too busy to hang out.

@daniellemybelle: i've found that SAHMs don't want to hang out with me, lol. but it probably varies by area. it must be especially cliquey in my area and @mediagirl's area. in contrast, i go out with my working mom friends all the time so they have not been too busy for me.

Most of my friends are sahms with live in nannies too. I do have a friend that works and is a mom but se doesn't issue any judgements to me and nor do I her. I think we tend to stay in cliques because as sad as it is moms can be judgemental of each other and no onewants to defend themselves all day

Right now... my mom friends are mostly SAHMs (I'm basically a SAHM with a tiny etsy business on the side). I went from working to being an SAHM, but in a different state (!) so for the past year or so I feel like I've been trying to sort out what differences are regional, cultural or WAHM/SAHM/WFHM-related. I try to keep myself from over-analyzing it all, but I still find myself wondering whether I'm being too forward or not initiating enough when it comes to mom-friendships sometimes. Wow, it felt good to get that out.
