I love more natural photos. C's cake smash was "semi-posed" I guess. The photog brought her backdrops to our house and then just snapped pictures of her going to town and having fun.

@zippylef: I was also thinking of C"s photos when I made this post! I love love love the "feel" of these--they're a perfect mix of posed and natural. Plus, I didn't realize that's your house! I love your walls and floors!

I personally prefer the natural ones. Whenever we do family photos/maternity we go natural and outside if possible. I did a few posed maternity in my bedroom and of course for newborn we did a few posed - but also lifestyle/family style.
I am personally not a fan of posed portrait studio shots like those at JCPenney or Sears... just not my cup of tea personally!

Lifestyle. I don't care for props or poses. I much prefer to let my girls' personalities shine through.

I can't find the images right now but there was a great photo shoot of a family that is a nice mix of the two. They were cooking a pasta dinner and so while there were lots of pretty props (think pretty dishes and wine bottles) and they were all in dinner party attire it was all candid while they actually cooked dinner. I thought it was a nice way to capture how the family interacts since they had an activity to keep them behaving naturally. I will add a link if I can find them!

I have always far preferred natural to posed. Posed feels so... fake, which technically it is. Natural just gives you a better feeling for true emotion and personality at the time. And like PPs have said. You can always add props! How they interact with them is still natural! And I will always always always adore cake smash pictures... always. lol

Definitely natural or I think what they call journalistic! I've held out for months for our photographer just bc I couldn't stand going somewhere for posed shots!

Though I always prefer natural, I love K's NB pics and those are posed? I also think those cake smash pics are always sooo cute and those are usually with props, etc. That's why I like Lawbee's example - natural, but with props?
