DH was looking at updating our insurance the other day and we are updating to add term life insurance for LO and I. We currently have the following: auto (2 vehicles), home (primary residence), home (rental property), life (DH), personal property. Trying to figure out if we need umbrella insurance as well.

We have auto (2), home insurance + personal insurance, 5 life insurance policies (2 on each of us, 1 for DD.) The only reason we have 2 on each of us is we are in the process of switching companies so they are practically the same. Although I'm tempted to keep them both now, it's a low monthly amount and it would help in the case of a sudden death.

@littlek: We have an umbrella policy. To add it was next to nothing so we figured we would give it a shot.

We have auto, home, personal property for my e-ring and we got an umbrella policy when we bought our home. We have life insurance through work, but its pretty minimal. I've been thinking about whether or not we need any additional life insurance in case something happens to us and LO needs to be taken care of.

We have auto insurance, homeowners (will have two policies for a couple of weeks of overlap between houses), personal property rider on my engagement ring, term life on both of us (I'm not a fan of life insurance as an investment vehicle unless we were earning more and needed an additional was to defer taxes), disability insurance, and we are adding an umbrella policy.
@littlek: I would highly suggest you look into what kind of disability coverage (if any) your husband has through his work. And consider supplementing with a private policy if necessary. At our age, a disability event is much more likely than a death event and it can be devestating financially.

-1 huge private disability policy for DHWe can't get a private life insurance policy for me at the moment because every time I've applied I got diagnosed with a brain tumor or some crazy pregnancy complication, so I have to wait a year each time! We'll probably get one added for me at some point. We will probably add a very small employer life insurance policy for our baby since it costs almost nothing.

Homeowners, auto, life policies (dh, myself, and lo all have them, my mom is a State Farm agent, that's why we started early), earthquake, personal property for my wedding ring, medical, and umbrella insurance.
