I had an internal monitor placed and that was the most painful thing for me by far. Even worse than my contractions. It took three agonizing tries. Ugh
(I should add that I never made it past a 4 before c-section so contractions didn't have a chance to get too bad)
What about you? What was the most painful part of labor/birth besides contractions?

The nurses touching my stomach. They kept moving the monitor because it lost her heart rate as she moved down and my skin hurt so, so bad.

The stitches at the end were awful! I would seriously have preferred to have gone through labor a second time. I had a labial tear and apparently the numbing agent doesn't work well, if at all for those?

Getting the IV for a bag of fluid. Contractions were coming quick and they blew out three veins. I had bruises for 3.5 weeks!

Mine was having to sit on the bed in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. I spent before and after the hospital trip on my hands and knees so having to sit during that 10ish minute trip was so uncomfortable - worst part of my entire labor! (with lo2)

Nothing really besides the contractions. The most uncomfortable thing was having to lay pretty much flat on my back for like 19 hours because every time I moved the monitor lost LO.

First time it was probably the vacuum assist. I had a few people comment like wow, you had a vacuum with no epidural? But I had no choice in the moment! Pushing hurt but felt good in that weird way.
Second time... I don't know. It was very fast and very painful. The stitches after were no fun but probably pushing was the worst.

My epidural placement was awful. I was so surprised because no one ever talks about that being a big deal. After that I didn't feel much though.

@ShootingStar: Epidural placement was awful too. It was nothing compared to the internal monitor but still awful. Even though my contractions weren't that strong, curling up into a ball during them hurt so bad and being yelled at to HOLD STILL HOLD STILL and not having DH with me made me cry like a baby the whole time. Lol

@artsyfartsy: Luckily I had the epidural before the internal monitors. They had to put in 2! One for DS (that I refused for a long time) and then one for me.

Tearing. I had to convince myself I would be able to pee again. And I only got 3 stitches. But it was the only "something is not right" moment I had the whole labor.

The pressure during the last hour of pushing. I had back labor so never really felt contractions (just hard pressure on my back), and they did minimal checks and no internal monitors, but the pressure caused by LO's head at the end about did me in because it was an exhausting, constant pain.

Contractions were.., fairly manageable. Pushing was absolutely that "rock and hard place" thing for me. It HURT. I didn't WANT TO DO IT. I HAD to do it or it wouldn't stop hurting!

When I was pushing for dd2 and they told me to stop pushing because I want having a contraction. Every fibre of my being just wanted her out. That was SO PAINFUL and honestly I was really scared.

When the nurses were frantically massaging my uterus afterwards (I was hemorrhaging). Back labor with failed epidurals and that was the thing that made me yell!
Planned C-section for my second, so no contractions, but the gas pains afterwards were agonizing. I cried while trying to poop (or even just fart) for over a week. The Percocet I was sent home with made them worse!

When the resident placed my foley bulb, it took a few tries and she accidentally broke my water. That was way worse than the contractions.

DS1-nothing came close to the contractions, but recovery was The next worse thing
DS2- epidural failed at 9 cm and the insane pressure during pushing was unbearable. Granted he was crowning for like 40 minutes because of a short cord that wasn't allowing him to come out. It was so intense.

D got stuck between contractions in the Ring of Fire. I was begging the doctor to let me push and she kept telling me not to because I would tear. I thought I was going to split in half. It was unreal.

I had pitocin and a failed epidural, so for me, it was those contractions.

Repair was awful awful awful - I also had the experience of a labial tear for which the numbing didn't feel like it was doing anything at all. But it still didn't hold a candle to crowning. Well, I guess it was close - the only times I screamed during L&D was once during crowning and twice during repair. But at least I could accept drugs during the repair.
