I think we usually have one of these posts every year, and I need ideas for my to-be-5 year old's birthday next month!
Please share your kid's ages and their favorite gifts.
Any gifts that were total misses?

DS (7): got a new Amazon Kindle with Roblox and Kids Messenger, he loves playing with his friends.
He also got a couple nerf guns he and DD love to play with.
DD (4): got a bunch of barbie sets (Fast cast clinic, spa day, Skipper playground).
She got a Build-A-Garden set that seems to be huge on Amazon and only played with it once.

Both girls 3 and 5 love their two wheel scooters and some Disney Animators little fold up polly pocket looking thing! I had no plan to get them a two wheel scooter and someone else gave them the polly pockets.

My almost-8 year old is an athletic outdoor-nut who would play soccer 24/7 if we let him. His favourite gift was this soccer rebounder - it's like a net but it bounces the ball back to you. He also got a ripstik that he really likes, and the OSMO Math Wizard Dragon game was a hit. Generally I find OSMO games to be the gift that keeps on giving, the kids love them and it's one of the few things that they'll play together, unsupervised, for an extended period of time.
My five year old loves lego, so his biggest hits were a few big lego sets. He also got a Bluey house and characters that he was really excited about, and an electronic drum kit.

my friend got them some colored hot chocolate. Blue for him, Green for her. That's definitely their favorite.

This is fun to read through! My daughter is 2.5, her favorites are cutting food, a doll stroller, and more Little People for her already giant collection.

DS1 (6.5) - Sorry board game (he literally just plays it by himself if no one here will play with him), a magentic science experiment book, and his nintendo switch
DS2 (4) - Spider man bath tub cling things. Literally a dollar spot purchase.
DS3 (2.5) - A stuffed llama

@LadyDi: lol, I love it when the dollar items are the biggest hit! DS got this weird Toxic Waste candy from my sis and was obsessed.

DS1 (7) - a big Lego creator 3:1 set, a basketball and illustrated Harry Potter (which I’m loving reading with him)
DS2 (4) - a Lego creative set of his own (big brother had a set we struggled to get him to share), magnatile construction set (sometimes I don’t know why we buy anything other than lego and magnatiles, it’s always the most played with)
DD (1.5) - toddler scooter

mini Pac-Man game (like the arcade game but hand held)

I have a 1yo as well but I don’t know for him, haha. Definitely the wrapping paper, Christmas ornaments, everything else he shouldn’t touch…..

My 4.5 year old daughter's favorite is this science kit: https://www.learningresources.com/primary-sciencer-lab-set. We've done a handful of the "experiments" it suggests, but she mainly loves using the little beakers and test tubes to mix her own concoctions with soap and water in a big tub we set up for her in the kitchen.
My 6 (almost 7) year old daughter's favorite was a craft kit: https://www.amazon.com/Kid-Made-Modern-Crafts-Library/dp/B07WSJVTR9?th=1

We are a game playing family so the games Mancala and Labyrinth (Harry Potter version) are big hits with DD5 and DS8.
Otherwise DD5 really likes roller skates.
DD3 loves a Rocketship w play characters

DD, 2, loved a Melissa & Doug barn and a box of 12 purple crayons (🤣)

@catgirl: it's funny what kids will gravitate to because my son (5) is *obsessed* with his light tracing pad. In fact, he's using it as I type!
My son's (5) favorite toy was probably the Jurassic Park dino that can eat small toys. And legos. Oh, and walkie talkies.
My DD's (9) favorites were an Alexa and a Gravity Falls book.

DS (age 3): Favorites were Thomas & Friends Trackmaster train set, Battat take apart plane, puzzles, an Usborne book that comes with wind-up toy cars, and stomp rockets
DD (age 5): Favorites were makeup, Hanna Andersson pajamas, and the games Mancala and Smart Farmer (I enjoy this too!)
Both of my kids love these popper toys that shoot foam balls. They come in different designs so my daughter's is a unicorn and my son's is a dinosaur.
Misses were a gem art kit, sticker books (neither of my kids are into these apparently), and a kid's gardening set

DS1(9) My parents got him a 3D printer and he's obsessed. Asks to use it every day (we're rationing, because the "printer food" is expensive.)
DS2 (6) Garmin kids' "smart watch." He obsessively walks around the house to get his steps in, haha.
DD (2) Everything. But her absolute favorite was an ice cream set from Melissa and Doug--she's obsessed.

@Jess1483: A kids Garmin and a six year old is such a terrible combination! My son got one last year and the number of times I'd wake up at 6am to his jogging in place beside my bed - "I already have 2000 steps, what do you have?"
nectarine / 2641 posts
@erinbaderin: Hahahaha, that's amazing! He had covid last week and was working so hard to get his steps! I was like YOUR BODY NEEDS REST and took it away from him.

@erinbaderin: omg this is my son. And he wants to stay up later just so he can have an extra hour of standing 🤦♀️ He keeps challenging me to fitness competitions and crushing me

@Jess1483: Can you give me a link to the 3D printer? I assume it's a kid-friendly version?
nectarine / 2641 posts
@SteelerGirl: Sure! It's called a Toybox. We've been pretty pleased. The plastic is a bit expensive, but overall it's been very user-friendly for my 9 year-old.
nectarine / 2018 posts
@wrkbrk: My DD loves scrabble junior! Have you tried Zingo word builder? It's another spelling one that she loves! And a little different but she also got a game called Great States for her birthday that she thinks is awesome.
