Reading this thread makes me feel so lucky because E's grandparents will be looking after her three days a week and she will be going to daycare two days per week - so she gets the best of both worlds. I do wish we could have someone look after her at home until she's a year old though because she needs her darkened room and white noise to nap.... but what has to be will be and I'm sure she will adjust.

We have a nanny for LO, and will most likely keep her until 2/2.5. We'll then look into daycare/preschool. I greatly prefer a nanny because of the individualized attention, not needing to scramble in the mornings/worry about staying late at work, and plus, our nanny helps to keep our house clean and tidy. She also takes LO out to the park, library, museums, classes, playgroups, etc., so we may even consider delaying LO's entry to preschool until 3. I don't think daycare is the only way to get socialization, and for us, we'd just prefer LO be out and about.
I'd love a nanny share, but have yet to find a fellow family!

Ultimately I would prefer to SAH but that's not an option for us.
We had a FT nanny for 2 years almost, and while it was ideal and awesome, it screwed us over INCREDIBLY when she quit (for a good reason- she's moving.) I also felt inconvenienced when she had to take off for certain things, and I wanted her to get more interaction with other kids. I never want to be in the position again where we rely on one person (unless it was a family member) so daycare is the best for us. I would love a home daycare but just like finding a good nanny- I couldn't find one that I felt 100% comfortable with. So daycare it is.
Now that I already voted I think a family member might be the IDEAL but really I think that all forms have pros/cons and it's about what you're most comfortable with.

For us, we've been lucky to have our ideal situation that DH and I've always wanted since TTC for kids.
My mom is our primary care, I work a flex schedule (3/4 days remotely). Now that DS is 2.5 we'll be enrolling him a preschool program in September. My mom will watch DS2 when I go back to work (at our house until we're done with nursing), but I'll be home too (and plan on hopefully nursing etc. on my home days).

I voted for daycare because we really love our center and it has been a great match for our family's needs.
If I could have it both ways, I would love part-time daycare and part-time grandma care! The kids would especially looooove that, but it would be too hard on my mom haha.

My DH doesn't WOH but if he did, we would want a nanny. My schedule is not predictable and I would like the flexibility of early mornings or more often, later evenings. Plus with a nanny, when you want to get out for a date night, you already have someone that you trust and your kids know for babysitting. We don't often go out so finding someone that fits those criteria is never easy for us.

I don't have a LO yet, but having a grandparent as daycare would be my preferred option. My grandma watched me when I was little and I think it contributed to our extremely close relationship.
