I would give them cash or a gift card after the second wedding.

@autumn865: This is similar to what DH and I did, except that we got married in a church and did the swanky lunch with about 30 people, then only had our reception a few months later (we moved our wedding date last minute because DH had to move out of his house)

Some gave us cash gifts at the first wedding and we really appreciated that. We were able to use it right after the wedding for our weekend out, etc.

Others waited and gave us gifts later.

Either way, we really didn't care. Especially considering your events are only two weeks apart, it probably doesn't matter.

But in no way did we expect anything form anyone for BOTH events. (not that we really "expected" anything for either, but you know what I'm saying)

I'd bring a gift to the first wedding and leave it in the car - and go out and get it if there are other gifts there. If not, you already have the gift purchased for the 2nd wedding!

@AmandaB8: I'd do this too! I'd probably bring a card with a gift card or cash, keep it in my purse, and if I saw a card box or others giving cards/gifts at the first wedding, I'd give it then. Otherwise I'd save it for the second. I'm sure they don't expect gifts from the same people at both though!!

i would actually gift them at the smaller one, as they will likely have a ton more to take care of at the big reception. it might make it easier for them.

I'd do a small gift at the small dinner and your normal gift at the second, larger reception.

Are you friends with anyone else going to the first ceremony? Can you ask them if they are bringing a gift to the first or second wedding? That way, no matter what you decide, you won't be the only one?

I think the card with money/gift card in the purse is the safest bet. That way you can have it at the first wedding but leave it in your purse if no one else is leaving gifts/cards.
