I went to the birthday party for the son of a friend of mine a couple months ago. Most of the people who came, I had never met before, but I was friendly and tried to talk to everyone. A few weeks later, my friend texted me and said that one of the moms at the party asked her to ask me if I would like to come to her son's birthday party. She booked a party at a bounce house facility, and they had a minimum number of guests she needed to pay for. A few of the kids couldn't make it, so she didn't want the spots to go to waste. She asked if I wanted to go and bring my son. She said we didn't need to bring a gift. What would you do?

I would only go if I really wanted to go! But if I did, I'd go and take a small gift as a thank you. If I didn't want to go (didn't think my kids would have a great time), I'd just so no thanks.

I was once invited to a friend of a friend's wedding (totally was on the b-list maybe even c-list because we were invited 2 weeks before the wedding) and I still brought a nice gift since they are still getting married and I wanted to be nice.
It's still that kid's birthday... he should have a gift.

Well you must have made a good impression! That was nice of her to think of you and reach out to your mutual friend. I'd go and bring a gift.
How old is her LO? For 3 & 4 yr olds a go to gift of mine is toddler binoculars that costs about $12. According to the parents the littles love it.

We are in the same spot with my DDs second bday on Saturday. We requested no gifts from anyone but no one is listening! I definitely expect nothing from my sister in laws nieces and nephews and my BFFs nieces and nephews who are coming via a second hand invite, but I'm sure they will bring something. If it were me I might just bring a book or something small, but I wouldn't feel bad about showing up empty handed!

I stock up around Christmas time when toys go on super sale...So I usually have $5-15 gifts around the house for these types of things...Figure an hour at Airtime or something similar would be $10 anyways...plus if your son would like it bonus!
DD is only 2.5 but I suspect more birthday party invites are coming.
