Who recommended you for a highly sought after position? Especially if this person had to pull a lot of strings! Thinking of sending a thank you card + gift card but I'm not sure what amount? Or where to?!

Did you get the job because of the recommendation or are you still in the early stages? I guess either way: I vote for restaurant gift card. How much depends on how you answer my question

booze, gift card, flowers like the others have all said. But make sure to include a very well thought out thank you card.
Or maybe a donation in their name to a charity they are passionate about.

I would agree with the thoughtful gifts suggested above, but also focus more on the thoughtful letter that accompanies the gift. I've gotten several gifts from mentees over the years, but relatively few thoughtful letters. In the long run, letters are worth so much more than a fruit basket or bottle of wine/scotch!
