We've done YoToddler and Chobani Champions.
I like Chobani Champions consistency better for DS

I feed LO Stonyfield baby yogurt. It's whole milk and has a ton of good flavors. I'm grossed out by the Gerber shelf stable one in the baby section.

Plain greek yogurt.
Any of the baby/toddler yogurts have tons of unnecessary sugars added. If your child likes plain greek yogurt I would stick with that and add in fresh fruits or honey if they need the sweet.

We just switched to regular greek yogurt. The boys don't love meat, and it's a great way to get more protein. We've used Chobani & Fage.
P.S. Stooooop saying "12 month old" or "1 year old." I'm not ready!!!!! I have a mini-panic attack every time I see that. Denial much?!?

I agree with @locavore_mama: if R will eat plain. Our boys won't and I haven't found time to mix it with fruit purees.

@locavore_mama: For someone who feels like you're judged for your food choices for your LO, your comment is doing exactly that, to those of us who chose to feed baby/toddler yogurts.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@mrsjyw: I apologize if it came off judgmental. That wasn't the intent.
I did a bit of research into yogurts marketed towards kids....and those are some of my findings. She is asking and I am sharing my own experience of why I choose not to give yogurt marketed for kids.
ETA: I apologize to anyone that found my response offensive. But I stick with it. I learn a lot from this community on all sorts of topics. I share what I find as well and trust any parent to do further research on their own before making a final decision!

Plain greek. She's into feeding herself so I'll dip apple or pear or berry in the yogurt and give it to her to feed herself.

haha i'm still giving yobaby--guess i should think about transitioning to yotoddler.
i have thought about mixing in fruits/honey into plain greek yogurt--however it is one more step of work that this lazy mama has decided to forego.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@locavore_mama: I know you're informed. And I've also read the same findings. I guess if I read just that sugars were added that's one thing, but your wording about "unnecessary" sugars makes it feel that we choose to feed our LOs sugars when there is no ill will behind our intent. no apology necessary, just pointing out tht it's a two way street.
ETA: I typically wouldn't have pointed it out since we all do have our own ways and we all judge, since we're all only human. But it light of recent posts where you lamented about being judged about your food choices, I think it's contradictory for you to do the same thing you were just complaining about being on the receiving end for. (/end rant, sorry to take away from your original post OP)

@cascademom: the shelf stable ones make my skin crawl for some reason
We did a whole milk organic in the beginning. Now that he's almost 2, he just eats the fage 2% that we eat. He's chubby though and no longer needs whole milk products

@mrsjyw: I fully admit I'm judgmental just like the rest of the world is. Never claimed to be perfect and said I'm not.
And no, that was not the intent of my response.

We buy a German brand, Elinas. C and DH love the plain honey and the honey and hazelnut flavors. I've heard Whole Foods carries it in the states.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@loveisstrange: mmm honey + hazelnut sounds delicious!

It depends on what your child will accept. My son doesn't like yogurt that is too runny, or with fruit mixed in, for example.

@locavore_mama: Right now we do the YoYo Baby. I don't like Greek yogurt and our grocery store doesn't sell a full fat kind. So I never knew what to try. She loves fruit flavored stuff but so far only loves bananas. Iffy on grapes and blueberries.
@Mrs. Blue: Freaking me out too! I can't believe our babies will be 1 next week. You buy the flavored kind? Is it low fat? I am so confused as to what I can and can't give her!

@locavore_mama: They both LOVE it. DH says its the best yogurt he's ever eaten. I'll be sad if I cant find it in the states.

At that age, we were doing plain greek yogurt but now at almost 2 (!!), it is either yo toddler pouches or oikos traditional greek, raspberry flavor.

All kinds! Yobaby, Plain Noosa whole milk yogurt, Plain Greek, flavored Greek.
(My favorite is flavored Noosa! )

I'm also curious....E will not *touch* plain greek yogurt. Hell, I won't, either, unless it has a ton of honey in it. Which defeats the purpose. She likes thick yogurt.
Yogurts aren't too terribly bad from what I can see, with added sugars. 1 TB of honey has 17g of sugar. Stonyfield kids has 13g per 6 oz container--that seems to be the lowest for flavored yogurts. Even plain yogurt has upwards of 12g per serving. Greek is the lowest at 8grams but I am not a fan.
@autumnlove, I *LOVE* Noosa yogurts! SO GOOD
eta: I see good things about SKyr yogurt and cannot wait to try it!

@Smurfette: We do buy the flavored kind. I like the Fage best because the fruit flavoring part is in a little separate section so you can choose how much to mix in. I get the regular, whole fat variety because I think they need the fats, at least my little peanuts do!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@Smurfette: where do you find full fat yogurt? I have the hardest time finding anything other than 0% fat yogurt.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@blackbird: I can't stand Greek yogurt. Nasty to me. I tried the yobaby stuff, it isn't horrible. R loves it!
@Mrs. Blue: Thanks! Our grocery store is small and do not have the best variety. It is just so close. I don't want to go anywhere else.

@mediagirl: No clue, my store doesn't sell full fat greek yogurt.
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@mediagirl: I buy full fat yogurt at Sprouts and Whole Foods.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@smurfette-Ahhhh no, i love greek yogurt! But I don't like it plain. It tastes like sour cream, to me. In fact, i usually use it as a a sub I accidentally bought YoToddler instead of YoBaby. E chowed it down, no problem.
Cabot brand yogurt is also tasty. I reaally like the vanilla bean. They also sell a 10% fat greek yogurt :O
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@Smurfette: oh sorry, I read that wrong and thought you said they do.
@autumnlove: what's a Sprouts? Is that a regional grocery store? I'll have to keep searching for the elusive 2% yogurt at my stores because I'm not making the trek to WF just for yogurt.

@junebugmama: My MIL bought them when we visited for Christmas. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. The flavors looked really bland. I felt bad serving it to my child. What's worse is the shelf stable Gerber toddler meals. She bought those too. Ugh, they were disgusting. She was genuinely surprised that we just fed him table food in smaller bits at 15-16 months old.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@blackbird: What's the difference between baby and toddler? Bigger portions?
pineapple / 12053 posts
We buy Greek yogurt from TJs. I've also found vanilla ones tht don't seem to add a lot of sugar but I just kinda look at the backs and guess! She doesn't eat a ton of it at a time though so I usually just add some fruit and she's set.

@mediagirl: I can find it at my Giant grocery store. But I can only find either Oikos in the 32oz container or Fage in the 6oz container. And the Fage is hit-or-miss. But I can ALWAYS find the Oikos!
coconut / 8861 posts
@Smurfette: I think that the flavors are different. They seem the same otherwise. I like YoBaby's flavors better than the Toddler ones.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@smurfette, The toddler one I bought had some cereal mixed in. It was a weird texture! But she didn't care and ate it anyways. All i saw was "strawberry-banana" ya know?!
I don't think there's any issue with continuing to feed R YoBaby yogurt. It's just whole milk+fruit yogurt. Too bad they don't just sell it in a big container, though. Those little ones get expensive
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@mediagirl: I've seen Noosa at Kroger and Meijer (not always) but sometimes!
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
I think also, the yobaby/yotoddler are really expensive per ounce...at least I read that somewhere.
You could also try yogurt from things other than cows milk, like coconut, goat or sheeps milk.
