@mediagirl: Ahhh, like WF type store. Just looked and there isn't one near you. I think there is one in GA..boo!

LO eats the same yogurt I do and it's Brown Cow Farm's yogurt in vanilla. We tried to give him plain greek and regular yogurt sweetened with fruit and honey and he wasn't having it. To be honest, I find plain yogurt pretty revolting so I don't blame him.

@mediagirl: I get M the full fat plain Fage yogurt at Whole Foods. I can also find it at our local organic grocery stores. It's hard to find though!
I also get plain YoBaby and with either I'll usually mix in some fruit, cinnamon or Cheerios for crunch.

@Smurfette: target, publix or whole foods!
we all eat the same kind so I get the big tubs of it.
I think Stonyfield?

@Smurfette: I guess I should revise my statement. I have no idea what % of fat the yogurt is. I really just meant not the "light" versions.
nectarine / 2054 posts
We do plain full fat greek yogurt with chopped fruit mixed in. It's LO's snack every day! He loves his "goyo".
pomegranate / 3643 posts
@fancyfunction: I didn't know there was full fat greek yogurt! We were doing greek yogurt, but then I realized he might need more fat.
We just get a big tub of vanilla and scoop it into a bowl and let him go crazy town on it. Mix in fruit if desired. I 'll microwave some frozen stuff and it turns into a nice addition.
Did you know bowls formerly full of yogurt make great hats?

@Smurfette: We buy her the regular Chobani at Publix. If you look closely at the flavors, some flavors are 0% and some are 2%. We try to buy the 2% for her. She likes the fruit in them and we don't have time to mix it ourselves.
I would read the labels carefully though on the baby/toddler yogurt (and adult yogurts). Some do have really high levels of sugar in them in comparison to the protein levels. I think some are almost the sugar levels of a frozen yogurt dessert treat.
This is a 0% Chobani but the sugar/protein is similar to the 2% ones.

Only Trader Joe's sells full fat yogurt around here. They don't even have them at Wegmans, Tops (affiliated with Giant) or our local organic food store.

@locavore_mama: I wasn't offended, and I feed LO baby yogurt.
I've tried plain yogurt on its own and mixed with fruit puree, and she won't have it. We only have two options for higher-fat (more than 3%) yogurt at our grocery store, and I've chosen the one with the least amount of sugar. Some days, yogurt is all she wants — and she's a tiny thing (3rd percentile) — so I have to give her something. It's really the only sugar she gets, so I've made my peace with it!
ETA: we used to be able to get a 9% plain greek yogurt and she ate that at the beginning, but started refusing it. I secretly loved when she refused it, because it meant I could eat her leftovers. Sooooo yummy. I haven't seen it on the shelves in a while.

This conversation makes me sad that Xander's allergic to dairy! I want to feed him some yummy yogurts!
ETA: I've tried some coconut milk yogurt for him, but those just don't have the protein I'd like... so sad.

We only do plain greek yogurt; I didn't like how much sugar was in the flavored yobaby ones (I think some had like 23-30 grams, which seemed crazy to me). Mainly, though, the thicker consistency of greek yogurt makes it way easier to feed him, and WAY easier for him to try to self feed (although it's still messy)
Ifyou don't like it plain, you can try mixing in applesauce or other pureed fruit! And after 1, they can use honey--LO always has a few bites of mine, which has honey in it.

@tinyperson: omg seriously, the full fat stuff tastes like cream! So good!

@Adira: really? We started with those and I remember them having just as much as some other yogurts. Try looking for other brands? Can he do soy?
pomegranate / 3272 posts
@luckypenny: I've tried to get DS on those pouches but he wasn't a fan. I should try again!
I usually get the Stonyfield whole milk yogurt since I found the YoBaby/YoToddler to be too expensive. But I also found other whole milk yogurts and greek yogurts at our grocery store (Mariano's, it's a Chicago chain) and at TJ's. I usually mix half of the container with a fruit puree pouch and then fill up reusable pouches. DS gets one for breakfast every morning.

@locavore_mama: He can do soy, but my grocery store only has So Delicious coconut yogurt for their dairy-free yogurt options (1-2g protein, tops)! I guess I have to try another store.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Adira: wow! I definitely remember the one I gave having more protein than that. Let me see if I can find the article I found that did a comparison of alternative yogurts.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@locavore_mama: I've heard (and haven't actually done a lot of research on this myself) that soy isn't all that great for you (lots of people suggested we stay away from soy milk for Xander and do almond, coconut, hemp, etc as alternatives). Is the same true for soy yogurts?? It seems like soy yogurts have the most protein (as far as I can tell) over almond or coconut yogurts. What do you think?
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Adira: I'm not sure! The only time she gets soy milk is when my mom makes it fresh from soy beans! I gave almond or coconut yogurt too before I started re-introducing milk.
pomelo / 5720 posts
We do Yo Toddler or full fat Greek. LO doesn't love yogurt anymore so I haven't really been buying it.
pomelo / 5628 posts
I buy pints or half gallons or whatever the larger size is of whole yogurt, usually vanilla. It's really no different from the baby versions. LO really likes greek yogurt and cottage cheese too. I bought Stoneyfield this time, but I'm trying out all the brands.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@locavore_mama: Well I found on-line an almond milk one that has 3-4g of protein, so maybe I'll see if I can find a local store that sells that!

@Adira: @locavore_mama: I make a special trip to TJs just for coconut yogurt since DD2 needs dairy free. Theirs only has 1 g of protein as well, fyi!
nectarine / 2152 posts
We get ours at the farmers market from a local dairy and it's amazing! I buy the full-fat plain version and then add a little maple syrup and the babies gobble it right up!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Andrea: Thanks! Guess I won't be going to TJs for it then! I need options with protein since that's what Xander will be really missing out on without WCM!
@Smurfette: Sorry for the threadjack!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@Adira: DD gets her protein from meat, beans, and avocado!
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
We used to feed her YoBaby and then the Trader Joe's whole milk yogurts in the 4oz cups bc they had the most fat and calories, and she needed to gain weight. Now she will only eat Chobani (the 0% one).
@mrsjyw: I appreciated your earlier comments. Lately I've been avoiding the feeding posts because some of the posts can come across quite judgmental.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Andrea: Xander does too, but he's currently still just eating purees and I'm worried about him getting enough when he starts eating table food, so trying to find other options for him, like yogurt!
coconut / 8430 posts
@Adira: we did coconut yogurt due to LO's cows milk sensitivity. Yes it doesn't have that much protein but we tried to make it up in other ways.
Now we use Trader Joes full fat yogurts.
bananas / 9357 posts
He won't touch plain Greek yogurt heck I can't eat that stuff myself. He'll only eat yogurt of it comes out of a tube. So far I've tried the chobani yogurt tubes and he likes those.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@hilsy,-The only yogurts I've known to have that much yogurt are the super flavored ones for adults. YoBaby has 12 grams, including what's in the milk, so it's not 12 added grams. The ones with fruit on the bottom usually have a lot more sugar. It's like pie filling in yogurt. And delicious
Even Dr. Sears recommends the Stonyfield yogurt because of its live cultures.
