I'm so psyched! Our good friends are in town so we're doing a hodge podge take out of stuff they've missed.
We're going to have pad thai and Puerto rican. Hmmmm tostones...pernil.....rice & beans.

@locavore_mama: oh my gosh that sounds amazing
We have reservations at a winery tonight and I'm drooling over their yummy food. I always get a pasta with bercy sauce, zucchini and a salad with house dressing. yum.

I'm thinking Marie Callender's Chicken pot pie. We did Italian beef last night after getting home from the airport and putting LO down, only for him to wake up with a poopy diaper. DH took care of him when I slept for the morning routine.

@bpcmarj: @mediagirl: yum!!! What's in Cincinnati chili?
I may have to coerce DH to make his chili soon...
@spaniellove: looove mapo tofu!!!! It's so easy to make at home too FYI!

@locavore_mama: it's a little different because it's not thick like regular chili and you serve it over spaghetti or on hot dogs! It's yummy. I just look for recipes online and tweak until I like the flavor. The keys are cinnamon and/or chocolate.

@locavore_mama: Love me some mapo tofu! Can I have the recipe when you get a chance? The BEST place I have ever eaten it was actually at a Taiwanese restaurant but I think Andrew Zimmern of Bizarre Foods said it was a Szechuan cuisine.

@mediagirl: mmmm I love chili dogs!!! You'll have to send me a link to one you like.

@Kimberlybee: there's a from scratch recipe I've been meaning to try. I'll find it for you. I usually make it with a sauce packet but there's a specific brand I like. And yes, I do believe it is Szechuan.

@locavore_mama: @Kimberlybee: Yes I would love a recipe! I always assumed there were complex forms of pepper and all I have is Korean red pepper.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: WHAT. Off to stalk the poas thread!!
We had pad Thai for lunch! My mom's favorite.
We didn't do steaks for Christmas dinner (my mom made oxtail soup for us because everyone was sick) so we're doing them tonight. Baked potatoes with sour cream and fresh chives. Can't wait!

@spaniellove: @Kimberlybee: I love anything by Bee over at Rasa Malaysia!

Admittedly some of the ingredients might be harder to procure if there's no decent Asian mart...
@mrs. wagon: I love oxtail soup!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just finished off a pot over the weekend.

@locavore_mama: yay thank you. Just whenever no rushy. BTW, I don't know why it was featured on Bizarre Foods, it is not Bizarre at all. I think he was just doing a special about that region. He said it was some of the spiciest food he's ever eaten.
Edit: ok saved the link, thanks again!

@locavore_mama: one of my favs too. The kids loved it! My mom made japchae last night and WJ polished off an entire serving AFTER his soup with rice. I'm so ashamed that I never cook them Korean food! They love it! I have to start!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@mrs. wagon: I love japchae sooo much!!! You should have your mom teach you so you can teach ME!
the pic I shared on IG of her double fisting the rice bowl was oxtail soup!
ETA: Chinese is def one of my M's fave cuisines. She loves steamed whole fish and can polish off at least half a fish herself if it's fresh.

@locavore_mama: Thank you! I'll check out Hmart and if I don't find the ingredients there I should be able to find them at another market nearby. Awesome!
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
@locavore_mama: Haha nice!! I guess what's not to love for kids.. Soup, rice, meat!
My mom told wj she packed japchae for his lunch and he said "YAY!" Lol!
Eta: I promise if I learn I'll post the recipe to the blog, but Mrs. Bee is probably much better equipped to do so! She cooks a ton of Korean!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@mrs. wagon: mmm please do. I lived off jap chae with kim chi fried rice in college. ahah I still make trips back to campus for that.

@IRunForFun: I love me some apps, but I feel like I wouldnt be full after a meal of them! And have a tummy ache too.
pomelo / 5509 posts
@mrs. wagon: That's the problem! I have to eat a lot of the junky food in order to get full, and then I always have terrible gas pains after, hahaha.
