I'm trying to finally get our master bedroom decorated (2 years after we moved here!) and I"m drawing a blank as to what to put on the wall across from the bed. It's just a big blank wall--there's no dresser, since we have 2 closets, and no tv in the room. It's not a huge room, so I don't have room for a sitting area/chair or anything like that. Any ideas?

We have a dresser with a mirror, so not any wall space to hang anything.
We have a picture frame above our head board, though.

We have a dresser and a TV over there. The dresser is actually DS's clothes since his closet is itty bitty.

If I recall correctly, @hilsy85: you and your DH have travelled a fair bit - a nice, old fashioned world map would be lovely.

@photojane: I agree with the sentimental map! I really want to do one of Cambridge or London. Cambridge because thats where C was born, or London because we love it there! I think since it's a bedroom, it should be something more personal.

@hilsy85: What about a bench? And then you can hang something above it. It would fill the visual space on the lower part of the wall and it would give you a place to sit and put on shoes, etc.

I think like 4ft by 1.5ft would be the size so it didn't just look like it was randomly floating in the middle, you know? Need to see how expensive that would be...

We have dressers (one with a mirror) on that wall, but what about photos?
On another wall we have a 16X20 photo on canvas from our wedding. My SIL is finishing decorating their room and they have a wall of photos of their kids (well, most of them. The youngest 2 haven't had portraits yet)

We have a dresser and a mirror. Next to it, I have my dad's first office chair that my mom reupholstered when they first got married. It's a 70's orange color, but I love it.

There are three doors - closet, bathroom, and the door to the hallway.
But, I have a huge blank wall on the right wall. The ceiling is even vaulted. I want to get a huge dresser, but we can't find one I like and isn't really expensive.
I LOVE the idea of the map and think we might steal it!
I also really like the idea of a narrow bench with some art - either something large-scale like a map, or a smaller gallery wall.

We have DH's dresser with a TV on top of it across from our bed.

Maybe you could get a shallow table (like this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00251809/) so that things aren't looking floaty?
Then you could use baskets in the compartments for things like shoes or other little things you want to store easily

Does it need to be functional?
We have two armless chairs and a small table, my husband uses it as his charging station. There's a window on that wall, as well as 2 framed prints of vases of flowers.
If you have a fabric or wallpaper that you love, you can put up a big piece and frame it out with moulding. Or a family photo gallery.

@looch: nope function not necessary, but the space is small so it can't take up too much room! We've done fabric in the past and really liked how it looked!

Our closet is opposite of our bed. But like you our walls are bare except for a tall mirror. I am so indecisive when it comes to decor; I can't commit!

You could pair a bench underneath a map so you wouldn't need to get quite a large map. Also would help ground it a bit, if that makes sense.
If you're big into books or knick knacks, I think I would put two tall bookshelves side by side there and fill 'em up!

@hilsy85: I'd probably leave it blank, full disclosure! I suck at decorating, though. I am too cheap to execute.
We have the IKEA map, it's currently in the dining room because it's the only big wall space we have. It's really huge, and we have flags on it of the places we've visited together.

I do think it's an awkward space, so I see your dilemma! I think you definitely need a piece of furniture on the wall. I like the idea of a narrow bench (could double as storage inside). Or a shallow table with a few things on top.
OR! You could do a faux fireplace mantle? That would be so pretty, and wouldn't take up much space. Ana White has plans for those. Then you could do the map over it, and also put some things on the mantle.
