Would you take your child at 3.5 or 4.5? You can only choose one. My parents want us all to go to Disney World at some point. We're trying to decide if we should go at 3.5 or 4.5. Will she sort of remember it if we go at 4.5? This would be a big vacation for us - we don't typically go on expensive vacations. When we vacation, we stay with family and spend very little.

Our plan is to wait until DS1 is 4/5. We figure he'll probably be off naps by then and have more energy. Also, will hopefully have some recollection/memory of the trip! (DS2 will be 2/3).

If you're hoping she'll remember then 4.5 gives you a better chance!
I hope to take M by summer of 2017. 2017 will be right before A turns 3. At the rate she's growing she should be able to go on most kid rides and still be free! -
i think 4 is the perfect age. we went with charlie at 3.5 and he took a 3 hour nap.

We did 2.5 and 3.5 and there was a world of difference between the two times. I think the goal is to be off the afternoon nap, so I'd choose 4.5 (my son was still on the afternoon nap until a little after 3.5 years of age).

I would wait until 4.5! No naps to worry about and she is more likely to remember it.

4.5 she will remember much more and be more independent. Fewer tantrums related to tiredness etc.

@mediagirl: 3.5 is a fun age but hard to keep up for a full day. I would say they have a good memory at that point. By 4.5 you could probably skip a nap and enjoy more of the rides.

If I had to choose out of he two, 4.5. But I've always maintained that Disney would be a great 8 - 10 year old surprise trip.

@stiletto_mom: omg can you imagine the 8 year old on birthday morning? Pack her/him up in the car and drive to the airport and put Mickey ears on him/her?!
Although our nieces aren't quite into princesses anymore by 8. I think 7 would be ideal for the princess factor.

We took our boy for his 2 year birthday, and he did great! I'd think, then, that 3.5 is fine

Thinking about it though, if you want him to enjoy more rides and stuff, it might be better to wait longer.

I went at 3 and had a blast! We're going next month to Disney World, with our 3 year old and 16 month old. Our 3 year old is beside herself with excitement and I think it's going to be a great age to take her. She doesn't nap anymore and is over 40" tall which is tall enough for a lot of the rides, so those aren't issues.

I would wait until 4 so they can really remember most of it!

We were just at WDW last month, when LO was a month shy of 3 and she had a BLAST and still talks about it (meeting the princesses, the Ariel ride) and asks to look at the pictures we took. She also did not really nap at all (I wore her in the Tula and she fell asleep on the bus there from the resort and was asleep for the first half hour we were there, but that was it), and we didn’t have to schedule around a nap. All that said, if it’s going to really be like a once in a lifetime trip and you are not likely to go again, I would wait until at least 4.5, but probably older.

If I was only going once I would go wait until 4.5 ... We are taking DD next March, she will be 2.5 but we are planning to go back a couple of times during her childhood so I don't have huge expectations for this trip!

I would say 4.5 if I had to choose one, but honestly I think the older the better. I took my sister at 10 and think maybe 7-9 would be ideal. She was old enough that she wouldn't tantrum from a sugar rush/low blood sugar, big enough to go on everything she wanted to go on, and still young enough for the magic of Disney to be very present in her life. And I was really glad we weren't there with a kid still on a nap schedule. I know it's not the norm to wait until a kid is that old, but I thought it was a really great trip.
Although I think it's different if you live close and can go multiple times before a kid is 10ish. For our family, it just was not financially feasible to go more than once when she was young.

I'd wait as long as possible. My first trip to Disney was when I was in 4th grade and it was awesome! I think you remember more when you are older.

4.5! If it's once in a lifetime then wait as long as possible!
My in laws live somewhat near Disneyland and we took LO at 2.5 years old. It was fun but we had really low expectations because we knew we would probably go back every few years or so.

I agree that if it is once in a lifetime, I would do 4.5 or even older. I think Disney is great for all ages but awesome around 6 - 8 years old.
We want to take LO when she is 2.5 before we have to pay for her, and I think it will be so fun! But we would definitely hope to go back when she is older too.

Any age!!! If I had to pick one, 3.5. Then you can fall in love and make it happen when they get older. :). Ok but if you are absolutely sure it is once in a lifetime and she is on the shorter side, under 40 inches at 3.5 then wait a year.

It really depends on the child. I remember everything from 3 and up, some don't remember before age 5 even. Very much depends.
