It is hard because our crowd is a mix of Americans and non Americans, so the pop culture stuff doesn't translate.

@mrbee: It's an iPhone app that you hold up to your head and the people around you have to guess what it says. There are different categories - for the dance category, it'll say "the Twist" and everyone dances and you have to guess. Or "Running Man," "disco," "Soulja Boy" etc. There's an accents category with clues like "Surfer Dude," "Bostonian." It's silly but very fun.

We love Scattagories, Pub Trivia, or Baulderdash (I think this gets more fun with drinks!)
Definetely need to buy Cards Against Humanity, this is something I can see being a hit with DH's family!

Cards Against Humanity, Settlers of Catan, and 7 Wonders. Love them all!

Our favorite is "Wits and Wagers." You get a question and have to write down your answer (which is always a number). Then everyone shows their answers and you get to bet on who is closest. It's cool because even if you suck at games or have no idea about the clue, you still have the potential to win.

Taboo, Cranium, Apples to Apples, Quelf, What's your like? (sounds bad but it's really not!)

My sister got the game Quelf. We really dragged our feet when she was asking us to play but once the game started everyone was laughing and having a great time. It's kid friendly, too.
Pretty much the big rule of the game is to obey the cards.
You would think that would be boring but you'll be surprised how hard it is.

For our usual get together we warm up with bananagrams and then play settlers. We recently played acquire for the first time and it was really cool. Apples to apples is also great for big groups.

Love this thread. Have already added several things to my Amazon cart.
My sweetie and I play a lot of Pandemic, Scrabble, and Boggle.

@lilyofthewest: we just played pandemic over the holidays! At first I was like "this is the dorkiest game ever" (and I'm a huge dork) but it was SO MUCH FUN!!! We found out we were playing it wrong but it was soooo fun!

@Sandy: I'm excited about the suggestions for Forbidden Island that I found in this thread -- a lot of the reviews compare it to Pandemic because it is also a collaborative game where all the players work toward a unified goal. It is kinda nice to have a game that you either all win or lose together.
My sweetie has another collaborative game -- Elder Sign. I hated it at first because it has 20-something pages of directions. Once you eventually get the hang of it, it is pretty fun. I prefer games with simpler rules and more straightforward gameplay though.

@Mrs Green Grass: we love wits and wagers!
Where is @wheres_c!!
We are board game crazed.. But the big winner lately has been Bohnanza. We just got Pandemic which is complicated but fun. We regularly play Ticket to Ride, Settlers, and Puerto Rico in person and online with friends while we Skype.

@mrs bunchy: we LOVE Quelf at my house! The first time playing it was definitely the best time. So much laughing!

I have enjoyed playing Dominion and 7 wonders. They are more quiet/strategy/thinking games rather than laugh out loud ones. For more of a party atmosphere, I like Catchphrase and Bohnanza.
I just saw this on the front page of Slickdeals. Since so many people are mentioning Cards against humanity (and its been sold out for months on their official site)... Cards against humanity is finally on Amazon:
