For me, I'd say it was Shake Shack. In 'n Out Burger was pretty solid though. It was way cheaper though, so it makes sense that it wasn't as good as the Shake Shake burger!
What's the best burger you've ever had?

I'm actually a fan of Five Guys, but I had an amazing burger last week at the Baltimore airport (BWI) last week! The place was called DuClaw Brewing Company, and the burger I had was ah-mazing. It had applewood smoked bacon, gouda and chipotle aioli. Not at all what I was expecting at an airport (it was outside of security).
ETA: When I lived in Philly I once had a really interesting burger called a Shame Burger...included a slice of scrapple and a fried egg...

In n Out is sooo good! We just had it the other day because I was too lazy to cook idk if its the best I've had though. I didn't eat red meat for 6 years and suddenly when I got pregnant, cheeseburgers were all I wanted so I've ha a bunch. Super Duper burgers in SF is reallly good. I wish there was a shake shack in SF!

toss up between Shake Shack and Minetta Tavern.... they're so different though, so I find it hard to rank one over another. I think In n Out is good, but the meat they use isn't the tastiest, which I guess explains the price.

It was this place with a green door and a picture of Regis Phillbin on the wall...

I like juicy bistro burgers. My favorite in recent years is at a place called Le Pigeon. They make such a tasty burger.

Five guys! I remember the first time I had it, I had never heard of Five Guys and they had just started opening locations in the city. So good!

@Honeybee: +1
My favorite burger is at a Washington state restaurant called Bob's Burgers and Brew. Yum.

Love in and out too! Wish they had it on the east coast! Shake shack in NYC is pretty awesome. The one here in dc is pretty boring as they don't have that many choices.

@Honeybee: awesome response! Haha
I would have to go with five guys. There is also a burger bar near where I used to work that had the best turkey burger I've ever had, although I was pregnant when I had it so that could skew results!

Hurmm.. Probably five guys. In n out isn't as good as it used to be. There're some burger places here that are really good .. Flip burger, bgr, farm burger (uses grass fed beef).

The Bristol Lounge in the Four Seasons in Boston has the best burger I've had.

Hwy 55. It used to be called Andy's but they changed their name because they're going national and apparently there's another Andy's out there. Their burgers are exceptional.

Some friends and I found a/the Shake Shack burger recipe online and we recreated it and it was sooooooooooo awesome.
In Toronto, we also have a place called "The Burger Priest" and it's the most awesome burger I've EVER had in my life. EVer. And EVER.

My favorite is the Juicy Nookie Burger from The Nook. It's just a cheeseburger stuffed with cheese, but it is delicious. I don't know how it's possible to fit so much cheese inside of it! The Nook was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives a few years ago, and we've loved it ever since. Their fries are super good, too!

@chopsuey119: We haven't tried Farm Burger yet. Have you tried Grindhouse Burgers? On Piedmont, really good burgers.

Yeah, I'd have to go with Shake Shack. It's so simple but so perfect.

The In n' Out that I had after giving birth. I was starving!
If I could combine a Five Guys bacon cheeseburger with animal fries, that would be my perfect meal!

I must be the only person who doesn't love In-N-out! I find that they are kind of flavorless. I love Culvers Double Chedder Butter Burger with everything on it though.

The Shack Stack from Shake Shack. DH and I still talk about how amazing that burger was, yummm...

Man...I love burgers...this is hard.
For fast-food type, I would say it's definitely a toss-up between Shake Shack and In N Out.
Sit-down it's a toss-up between Umami, Father's Office, and Burger Bar (Vegas location).

five guys! but up here in Canada our pickings are pretty slim for a burger that isn't from a typical fast food chain.
