If I were you, I'd buy a few different kinds. I personally do not like Swaddlers. They have a weird mesh liner that sticks to DD's butt.
Next time I will use Huggies Snugglers (they have the pee indicator line, which is nice when they are teeny) for size 1, then switch to Pampers Baby Dry for size 2, then to Huggies Snug & Dry. For some odd reason, Huggies size 1 and 2 are drastically different---like they skipped a size...

I used Pampers swadlers for 6 months without any problems until my LO developed a diaper rash. I did everything I can to get rid of this diaper rash--cream, leaving diapers off, oatmeal baths, etc and nothing would get rid of the rash. Nothing worked for about a month. On a suggestion by my friend, I switched to 7th Generation brand and a day later, the rash was gone! I haven't looked back since.

I like both pampers and huggies. We haven't had any issues with either of them. I agree that diapers can vary with each baby and I may just be lucky. I personally decided to stockpile during my pregnancy to get good deals. I stayed on the conservative side on how many I purchased in each size, knowing I could always buy more if needed. I also saved some receipts if I needed to return any. By stockpiling I saved about 68% of the retail cost. That to me is worth it even if I don't use a couple packs.

I loved Pampers Swaddlers until she became mobile, then we switched to Pampers Cruisers. I did not like Pampers Baby Dry, you can feel the beads, like little grains of sand

We didn't like Pampers because they don't have the extra band of elastic along the back, which meant poosplosions for us.
Huggies all the way! We like Little Movers or Pure & Natural.

I've been using Huggies little snugglers. They seem fine. I liked them better than pampers swaddlers because they have a better fit in the back of the waistband to catch up the back poops.
Here's why I would avoid stocking up too much. I bought 1 giant pack of NB and 1 pack of size 1s. The hospital gave me 2 small packs of NB pampers. Then I opened the giant pack of Huggies NB but only used half before he started leaking out of them, even though they technically fit. I didn't even use the whole pack of size 1s before he was leaking out of those! I'd recommend getting a few smaller packs and you can always exchange if LO grows out of that size.

Pampers Swaddlers. We still use them and my son is almost 2. No rashes, no leaks or blowouts... EVER.
Huggies were probably the worst diapers I've ever used. We had leaking and blowouts all the time when he was a newborn - I tried them again when he was a bit older and they just never fit him right. So I think it depends on your baby and their body type.

Target! I wanted to do more environmental diapers and did seventh gen and honest and natured by nature and earths best and a few other brands but target fits her best.

We use up and up. Pretty sure it's the same formula as honest but without the cute prints. I don't recommend sticking up until your baby is here so you can see what you like best and what fits your babe! Congrats and good luck!

Another person in the "wait until baby is here" camp. DS was in size 5 at 6 months?! He was in size nb/1/2 for like two weeks each and size 3 for a month and 4 for a month or so. He just won't stop growing! I know it's not the norm, but you never know.

Target brand gave DD an instant rash and I'm not a fan of how Huggies fi- so many up the back blow outs. We only use pampers baby dry now.
ETA: I don't suggest stocking up either. DD only used one box of NB and size ones. She used 2-3 for a couple of months and has been in 4's from 6mo-16 mo with no sign of growing sideways anymore. You really never know.

We have been using Pamper Swaddlers for 2.5 years. I want to give the Up +Up brand a try though, esp when LO 2 arrives

@.twist.: Kirkland is made by huggies!
We use pampers because it's the only option that doesn't leak for us. Someone decided to stock up for us so I ended up with at least 9 cases of buggies and Kirkland that I had to get rid of online.
I highly suggest trying before you stock up on tons.

We mostly CD (not for overnight or travel). I bought a small package of all the diapers in size N at Target. Honest, Up & Up, Huggies, Pampers, Luvs. Now the babe is in size 2 and we buy Huggies at Costco- they fit her body best.

We used pampers swaddlers when she was younger. We switched to the cruisers when she got a little more mobile. Huggies leaked through the legs on DD. she has skinny legs though. Huggins wipes are much better than pampers, in my opinion.

@YouGotMe: Really? Well, that certainly explains why they reminded me so much of huggies!! Haha

@Keybee: Rather than stock up on actual diapers you can start purchasing gift cards to target or BRU for $20 a week or so. That way when you need them you'll already have the money set aside and it won't be such a big deal to your budget. Like others have said you don't know what will fit baby best or how fast they will go through sizes. You'll probably get some at your shower to try out.

The only ones that i didn't like were Costco's Kirkland brand. I tried hard to like them, but they were not absorbent, I returned the box.
We also never tried Huggies.

When they were young I loved pampers swaddlers. Now we use huggies little movers.
