Not a special occasion (Christmas dress, flower girl dress, etc)
DH wants a seer sucked dress for R (no clue why) and I found a really cute romper (I know not a dress) on etsy but would be almost $50 with shipping.

I guess it really depends on how much I love the outfit, but in general, I don't like to spend more than $25 on a piece of clothing (excluding jackets or coats).

I might spend $50 if I had something in mind she'd wear it to, but if it's a "just because" outfit I probably wouldn't spend more than $30.

She's outgrowing clothes like a weed these days (7 months old) so $25 is my limit. I think once she is a bit older and I know the clothes will last for more than a nanosecond I'll be willing to spend a bit more!

It depends on how much I'm in love! I don't think I've ever spent more than 30, but I might if the shoe fits.

Erm, i don't have limits. If i really really liked something and thought I'd put her in it a lot, I'd certainly try to get my money worth
It's a better purchase than the $40 I spent on a birthday dress that she's only worn once because it was special occasion!

Not special occassion? $20. DS doesn't care about style these days (everything is some popular character) and M will just poop in his clothes.

I don't have a set limit... I normally don't spend more than $10-$15 on any one item - but I have made exceptions for items I truly love. I bought a pair of yellow jeans for J and I paid $25 for them - which is more than I'd normally spend on his clothes but he wears them ALL the time.

Seer sucker seems a bit fancier to me, where would she wear this outfit (if not for a special occasion)?
Have you checked department stores or is it something really unique you want?

Even for a special occasion I'd probably spend like $15 max (UNLESS it was for a wedding and the bride really wanted a specific dress). I am super-cheap, and I work at a children's consignment store so I buy everything used (but in great condition)

As he gets older, less and less money, since he seriously wrecks his clothing.
I might spend $45 on an "I have to have this" item, but for his every day clothing, no.
kiwi / 506 posts
$25 is my max and that's only for Gap Baby/toddler jeans because they rock. Everything else I wait for a deal. But I also have a boy so that may change if #2 is a girl.
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
$50 but only if it has a high resale value.
But I would spend more than that on a winter jacket since that'll be worn every day for 6 months, and now that the kids are older they last years esp when passed down.

@T.H.O.U.: I have no idea! I think he wants one with her monogram. I just don't want it to have that South GA flare, ie. bows, ruffles galore.
pineapple / 12566 posts
Other than outerwear, probably 25-30. But I buy almost all of the kids' stuff on sale, so it's normally less than 15.

Non-special occasion? 20$, and that's pushing it. I live for sales where I can get cute pieces for under 5$

$20-25? I don't usually buy whole outfits together but she gets a lot (of cute ones!) from grandma. I mostly buy carters on sale although that is changing as LO moves into 2t.

We have two seersucker dresses for DD..
this one

and a Tommy Hilfiger one that I can't find now.
I think the were $20 each maybe. I try to stay around $20 for an outfit. Up to $50 for special occasion stuff.

@oliviaoblivia: Oh my DH would love that one! He wanted a blue one.

@Smurfette: LOL south GA flare. Oh no joke. I told DH if this pregnancy is healthy and we find out it is a girl we are keeping that a secret...the south GA flare is a serious problem. Like the floofy bell bottoms!
To be honest, most of his outfit clothes come from other people. But I have spent as much as 20 on one item (cardigan), which with jeans and a shirt would have been....like, 45 altogether. But we of course split the pieces up. With a girl it would be harder to get your money's worth out of a dress though!
Id plan to get it for a specific occasion and then try to get more use out of it to justify the expense.

@cyndistar3: @Bao: I am right there with you.
Honestly the most expensive thing I buy LO is pjs, because I can't ever find them used (and we buy Carters from walmart/target for about $7 a piece). Almost every other item of clothing we own is a hand me down or bought at a children's consignment store. He has plenty of super adorable outfits, and I honestly don't think I spent more than $4 on any one piece, with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 in his lifetime. I know we live in an area that has lots of options though... To me, special occasion outfits aren't any different. They will only be worn once, so I try to combine pieces we already have or purchase something used/inexpensive.

You don't wanna know what I spend on just regular ol' clothes, lol. I do sell about 99% of her stuff though and end up spending $5-8 per outfit when new or buy it used for a much lower price and resell again. You can find what you're looking for on tons of resale for a lot cheaper than $50 on Facebook pages

It's case by case for me. If I really love something I'll get it. I wouldn't feel bad if it's not a special occasion dress because she's more likely to wear it a bunch of times.

@Smurfette: hahah what made him want a seersucker dress?
The ralph lauren one is SO cute!

@chopsuey: I have no clue....the south GA boy in him?!?!
@emg86: I can imagine since based on her pics on IG!

I've bought DS Burberry, 7FAM, True Religion, etc. I don't mind spending $$ if I like it.

I wish I could spend more on clothes. For example, I would LOVE to get this for M for her 2nd birthday. Alas, it's about $20 out of my price range. Whomp. https://www.etsy.com/listing/157530606/giraffezoo-shirt-and-skirt-set?ref=related-0

I got this one from strasburg children from ebay! $10!
I will spend about $25 tops on an outfit, special occasion or not. That does not include shoes and accessories. If I want something higher end, I'll buy used.
