LO is 12 months old and so far a cold + ear infection is the worst. I am always so paranoid she's going to get HFM after reading about it so much on here!
What's the worst illness your LO has had?

She's had stomach flu and HFM. Id say the stomach flu was the worst. HFM really wasn't a huge deal for us.

Thankfully just one weird fever virus - he spiked high fevers and was lethargic, but those were his only symptoms.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
T had a virus last week and we wound up in the hospital because they thought it was meningitis. It wasn't a bad virus, he recovered after a few days (one week exactly and he's 100% back to normal) but the hospital ordeal made it the worst.

She had a horrible vomiting virus when she was about 14 months and was sick 14 times in 4 hours. We had to take her to ER, she was so poorly, bless her.

If we're not counting anaphylactic reactions, roseola...she had a really high fever for a few days! It sucked that she was so sick but I secretly loved holding her for days straight.

A nasty virus a couple weeks ago. High fever and sores in his mouth.
thats been his only real sickness so far other than teething related ear infections and a couple minor colds/runny noses.

Hm croup and double ear infection around Christmas/New Year's was pretty miserable.@Danizaur: what a relief that ordeal is over!!

Stomach flu! YUCK. And, it was on her birthday party weekend. The worst.
honeydew / 7586 posts
He had a really nasty staph infection when he was 5 days old. We didn't know if he was going to make it at first.

An intestinal malrotation (which required surgery to correct).
squash / 13764 posts
@MsLipGloss: my DH had that! Needed emergency surgery when he was a kid.

@hilsy85: same- croup with double ear infection.
at thanksgiving and out of town. Horrible.

DS: pneumonia. It was so sad
DD: she had a bad virus when she was a few months old, and she had diarrhea so bad for 10ish days. Her butt was so raw, I felt so bad

@MsLipGloss: Have you read Drew Magary's book "Someone Could Get Hurt," or specifically, the first chapter (also a separate article somewhere) called "Malrotation"? Oh my gosh, all.the.tears. I cannot imagine.
J had severe jaundice and dehydration as a newborn - his bili spiked at 21 or 22 when he was 3 days old, he ended up under the lights in the NICU for 3 days, it was horrible. After that, probably croup. Super scary when you have no idea what it is at 2 AM and your baby can't breathe
Most of the time, he's healthy as a horse. But when he gets sick, he really goes all out!

HFM sucked bad, but the double ear infection spiked a fever that landed us in the ER.

@hilsy85: we were really really lucky they caught it when they did!
@keepcalmcarrie: I have not! I will certainly think about it. But we had a really scary moment in recovery, and I still have a hard time keeping my shizazz together when I think about it.

@keepcalmcarrie: OMG that book made me cry so much! I loved it (masochistic much, lol!).

Croup and double ear infections. Croup was our first ER visit. Ear infections were a solo visit to my parents with me in tears about him not feeling well.
persimmon / 1096 posts
@hilsy85: Me too!!! The book is amazing, and I love Drew Magary anyway. My husband is not a crier, but that book got him a few times too.
@MsLipGloss: I understand that. The chapter could definitely be triggering. But maybe in a few years... it's just a really amazing, moving piece of writing. I'm so sorry you went through that experience

Hfm was the worst.
He has also had many viruses and colds, roseola, and a few tummy bugs. Aside from hfm I can think of two other viruses that were really, really bad.
He's 27m. Most of his illnesses were from 5-14 months when he started daycare.

herpetic whitlow. she had sores under her finger nails that got super swollen/pus filled. she was miserable for about 10 days and we were quarantined that whole time! sucks because she can get it again but hopefully it won't present that bad.

@winniebee: the daycare plague is so tough for those months until immunity is built up.

LO is 23 months and her worst has been croup (luckily only a moderate case) she's had a cold 3 times but that's it.

HFM. It was miserable
We are incredibly blessed and I am eternally thankful for his good health thus far

Pneumonia. Twice for both kids. Stomach flu was pretty bad too.
RSI. Thankful there hasn't been anything worse so far.

A cold. And an ear infection (separately).
The worst he's ever felt though was last week and it was a mix of allergies/fever/teething. I've never had to sleep in his room before and I did it two nights in a row because he was so pained and didn't want to be alone.

Only a bad reaction to banana, twice (puke, so much puke). Bananas aren't allowed in our house anymore.

Bronchiolitis 5 times since December. The last one in June almost needed to be admitted into the hospital.

Just a cold-- but she got it at 3.5 weeks old and we couldn't do anything for her and it was really sad.

Norovirus was the absolute worst. And then I caught it, which was fun. All of this while on vacation!
grapefruit / 4079 posts
@JennyG: we were admitted in December for it when little one was 3 months. Worse thing ever. He's had it twice and RSV once. It's so scary when your child can't breath!
