On my birthday I always listen to a personalized birthday tape that my grandma gave me when I was little. Soon I will be buying the CD for LO, hope she loves it as much as I do!

Birthday dinner of my choice! Growing up I never got to pick but on this one day it was up to me, and we still do that!

That's so sweet!
We never did birthdays growing up so my favorite birthday tradition is with my husband. If it's a work day we always take a half day, go out to lunch together. Spend the whole day together, have dinner in or out. Birthday girl/boy's choice.

@jessiejo17: I'm excited to let my LO do that too! Personally I hate making decisions, especially on restaurants so I always let someone else do it for me. I tell DH it's my birthday and what I want is for HIM to decide!
@regberadaisy: That sounds amazing! It's sucky to be working or be alone on your birthday- what a great tradition!

@artbee: we sound so much alike! I hate making decisions too! It drives DH nuts haha!
My favorite birthday tradition is actually with my MIL. She makes her family angelfood cakes for their birthday cake. We each get a slice and then all of is pound it flat like a pancake with our fists at the count of 3. It's a running joke from when she was a kid and something that makes everyone laugh. Plus, we swear it condenses the angelfood cake flavor!

@artbee: seriously! Working on birthdays suckssss. I love the half days because then I don't have to use PTO. And at my work the office manager always brings breakfast treats in for the whole office when there's a birthday. hehe.

@Nskillet: It's awful, isn't it? Poor DH gets so annoyed because I'm always making him do all the work. You'd think they would like getting to pick what they want all the time. That's a funny tradition- how neat to be able to pass down to your kids something that their grandma had started!

@regberadaisy: This year I was kinda upset because DH worked on my birthday, and I thought it was my fault because I always say I don't want to make a big deal out of my birthday because I hate growing older. But then he took the next day off to take me to the Strawberry Festival

@artbee: I know! But he huffs and puffs about having to always choose his favorites. I guess I just love making him happy! Plus when I do make suggestions he hates the food choice or turns his nose up (DH can be a picky eater) where me im not choosey
usually!

@Nskillet: We always do that too! I finally do make a decision and he says he doesn't want it. So I say I tried, he has to do it.

@artbee: @Nskillet: I'm the same way about making decisions!! Hate it!!
Come to think of it, I don't really have a birthday tradition!

@Alivoo01: Maybe you can keep on eye on this thread and see if there's something you want to start!

@jessiejo17: That's what my family did too!
We'd pick our dinner and cake, and we'd eat off the You Are Special Today plate. I'd like to do the same things with my kids.
I only hope my kids won't have sucky birthdays, like I have historically experienced. There's a pretty hilarious video of my (6th?) birthday, where my older/younger sisters opened more of my presents than I did! And then they tried to divide the gifts among themselves. Sigh.

Mom calls and sings happy birthday to me (either live of on my voice mail)...And then she tells me about the night I was born. *tear*...My personal tradition is that I take a personal day from work either on my birthday or a day during the week of my birthday and I just do what I want to do: sleep in, watch TV, go shopping, get a massage, veg, etc.

@Minnie_Girl: Sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh when your sisters tried to divide up your presents among themselves! You should take an item from them each year to contribute back to your loss assets! LOL!

@Minnie_Girl: Oh no, why were your birthdays so bad? I think my worst wasn't even bad. We had a decorate your own cupcake station and I ate a ton of icing and got sick. So I had to lay on the couch and cuddle with my new toys.
@Rubies: They did that on Gilmore Girls!

@Minnie_Girl: oh no! But I admit I had to laugh at the image of your sisters divvying up your bday gifts!!!
@Rubies: awww that is so sweet!!! Was there ever a point where you were embarrassed by it? Like say in college or high school? I can't sing worth $hit but I would love to steal this!
@artbee: I totally want to do a cupcake decorating birthday party one year for the LO!!!

@regberadaisy: Me too! Well I want to have a baking party- and cupcake decorating will have to be a part of it too!

@regberadaisy: When I was in university, we had a phone line and answering machine (I didn't have a cell phone yet) so I would come home to hear my mom singing "happy birthday" with a Korean accent: "heppy busday to you...heppy busday to youuu..". My roomate thought it was cute. LOL.

@artbee: Some strange alignment of the planets in the middle of May? I have no idea! Growing up, my bday would often fall on Mother's Day or an end-of-year concert or something and we'd be running around too much to celebrate. As I got older it seemed to be the date for unfortunate events...like getting my period for the first time and getting fired, lol.
Now I kind of try to sneak the date past without anyone noticing. Just in case!

@Minnie_Girl: oh no that makes me sad. Birthdays are supposed to be fun!
