U.S. ladies, I was just wondering what your office's maternity leave policy is? (And this is just wishful thinking on my part, no BFP yet!) Our office gives us 4 paid weeks, and the option of taking 12 weeks (the rest unpaid). I know that Canada and other countries give women a heck of a lot more time off with their newborns. If only the U.S. would take note....

They didnt have one! I just said I am taking 12 weeks off. I will be applying for Disability and PFL.

We get 12 weeks paid maternity leave. Plus I can add vacation time and sick days to extend my paid leave. And the state of TN requires that I be allowed to take an additional 4 weeks (for a total of 16 weeks) unpaid if I want to. I will likely just take as much paid leave as possible.

We have FMLA we can take 12 weeks total, whether that be paid or unpaid. Through short-term disability we are allowed 2 weeks prior to our due date and 6 weeks (for vaginal birth) and 8 weeks (for C-section. The remaining time is using a combination of sick days and personal leave days. Luckily, I get 60 sick days and have 30 vacation days for this year, so I will be taking the 12 weeks at full pay.

Not sure. I work in a very small office and no one has had a baby that has worked here in the history of the company (besides my boss's wife). I recall him saying something about giving us 12 weeks off, but I have no idea if they are paid or unpaid.

We get 8 weeks paid and can take an additional 16 weeks off (unpaid) for a total of 26 weeks. You can use any accrued vacation time (but not sick time) towards your leave, too. For me, I will have 2 weeks vacation accrued and plan to use it for my leave so I'll take 10 weeks paid and then likely 6-8 more weeks unpaid.

I get FMLA and that's it... up to 12 weeks unpaid
I will have 8 weeks of vacation/sick time saved up by then, and will be able to use that, but will probably have to go back to work after that 8 weeks. It breaks my heart thinking about leaving my 8 week old in daycare.

I get FMLA and that is it, up to 12 weeks unpaid, we can use our vacation time as well, but that has to be included in the FMLA time, not in addition. So I will have about 3-4 weeks paid, depending on whenever I get my BFP and the time of year. Its a rather crappy deal, because we HAVE to use our vacation, can't save it for when we return and would possibly need a vacation day.

Mine's the standard California leave... 6 weeks disability (or 8 if I need a c-section) and 12 weeks FMLA/California Family Rights Act. I think the CFRA is paid (2/3 salary) but I don't know if it's 6 weeks + 12 weeks, or if the 6 weeks is part of the 12 weeks? And I'm planning on using my vacation time (I'll only have about a week once the baby is here since we just went to Hawaii this year).

@HabesBabe: Have you heard of California Paid Family Leave? It's 6 weeks of partial pay to bond with a newborn. It's separate from CFRA and Pregnancy disability leave. Not sure how they all overlap though.

Kudos to you ladies. I'm from Canada and with our mat leave being very generous, it's hard for me to imagine going back to work as soon as you will have to.

According to our employee manual and HR person, we are entitled to 12 unpaid weeks per FMLA -- which is actually pretty generous, because we have about 30 employees, which is under the 50 that would require FMLA. They don't offer any disability plans (but our health insurance, including maternity benefits, is RIDICULOUSLY good). But nobody's ever had a baby except for our boss. So I'm just assuming I'll need unpaid time off and we're saving for that probability.

We get 4 weeks paid full time, then an additional 2-4 weeks short term disability (~75%, depending on how we deliver, c-section gets longer), but can max out the rest unpaid FMLA or vacation for 12 weeks total- they haven't been very strict with others who haven't felt ready to return at the end of the 12 weeks either. I'm going to return part time only, so I'm not too worried about going back when I do.
I'm the first for my boss in 2.5 years, it has literally felt like he is in denial that I will have this kid. I had to contact HR, he promised me for months that he would, finally I gave up and called HR to get things moving.

Times like this make me happy I work for such a large company. We have a lady in our HR dept and literally her ONLY job is handling employees on maternity leave so she's all over it.

We get 6 weeks at 100% salary under short term disability. I'm eligible for FMLA but realistically could never take 12 weeks off, it would be incredibly frowned upon and difficult. I'm hoping I can work part time for several additional weeks after my 6 paid weeks.

I get 6 weeks paid, then an additional 6 weeks 100% paid because I pay for supplemental short term disability. If I have medical issues, I can take an additional 10-12? weeks at 80% pay. I can also take 12 weeks unpaid on top of that for FMLA.

We don't have anything. Because we are such a small company, they don't even have to offer FMLA. Thankfully, everyone at my company just expects I'll take 3 months off. They're very family-friendly. I have been paying into short term disability for a year now. I'll take 2 weeks of PTO, then 4 weeks of short term disability at 80% pay. After that I have to use the rest of my PTO and then unpaid time off. Blah.

6 weeks paid (100%) if vaginal delivery; 8 weeks for c-section. 2 weeks paid parental leave (for both men and women). After being with the company 5+ years (which I have), I can potentially take up to 26 weeks of paid (100%) leave under short term disability. We can use our pto/vacation time to further extend that... but no one would ever take that amount of time off.
Most women I know have taken between 12-20 weeks off. -
we have nothing in place since we're a small company. since it's me and my boss full time and the rest of our team seasonally, i think that once i get pregnant, i can write the book on it. *fingers crossed*

we have short term disability, so I will be getting btw 6-12 weeks off with that @ 40% of reg pay {probably only 6, unless something makes it medically necessary for me to take more - hopefully nothing will}. & I've been saving up vacation & PTO as well to apply towards the time I'll be gone. I'll probably be out between 8-10 weeks.

I get a total of 6 months off but only 18 weeks of that is paid in some way. The percentages vary from 100-50% depending on what week I am in. By US standards it is pretty awesome, by UK standards it is meh.

I'm eligible for FMLA but my company has no plan for maternity leave beyond that. We don't have STD but we do accrue sick time at both 100% pay and 60% pay, which is supposed to sub in for STD. Of course, since I'll only have been at the job 16 months when I give birth, I won't have much saved. We can also use our vacation time. DH and I plan on streching our budget so I can take the full 12 weeks though.

I got 6 weeks of 60% of my salary using short term disability after taking 1 week of PTO and anything beyond that is leave without pay or PTO as long as I file for FMLA. If I had my baby this year, I'd get 100% of my pay for the STD time (stupid policy change - I wish it had been last year instead of this year).

I'm a postdoc at a university, which basically means there is no official maternity leave policy since I'm paid off of federal grant money. I'm also not eligible for FMLA b/c I'm not really considered to be an employee. Luckily I have a huge amount of accrued sick and vacation time, plus I can take up to 6 weeks of short term disability at 70% of my normal pay. Many postdocs at other universities don't even get these benefits, so they're completely out of luck.

@MamaMoose: That's pretty cool about the state of TN! We might live in TN when we have a baby so that is good to know.
My current company's policy is 12 weeks "at a reduced salary." From what I understand, they negotiate with each individual on what exactly that will be.
I will have 8 weeks of vacation/sick time saved up by then, and will be able to use that, but will probably have to go back to work after that 8 weeks. It breaks my heart thinking about leaving my 8 week old in daycare.
