I have two pairs of jeans with holey knees that I'm thinking about cutting off into shorts. I'm not crafty at all, so share your tricks!

Are you leaving them frayed at the edges? If so, cut them longer than you want them to be, because they'll get shorter as you wash them. I suggest putting them on, stand in front of a mirror and making a mark where you want them length-wise and then cut them (after you take them off lol). I've had bad luck trying to wing it, because they get wonky and too short/too long!

@MrsTiz: Not sure if I will leave them frayed or roll them. Good tip about cutting them a bit longer than necessary though!

I usually try to line them up with another pair of shorts I already like the length/cut of. Like I'll put the "real" shorts on top of the ones I'm going to cut off on a table.
I usually still manage to mess them up though!

unless they are trouser jeans or wide leg, the thigh is probably a little tighter than you would normally buy in shorts. I cut a pair of my favorite boot cuts, and ended up cutting them longer than i usually wear shorts. so they come to a little above my knee. i think they still look cute, and they are comfortable so i wear them often. if i had gone short they would have been tight and short, and i'm too old for that shiz.

If you are going to roll them, I would borrow a friend's serger or sewing machine and fix the hem so they don't unravel and become shorter over time.
Or take them to a cheap tailor and have them serge the ends.
